So far, the president-elect is tapping people with deep ties to Washington and Wall Street as he fills out his Cabinet, turning to two power centers he vilified as greedy, corrupt and out of touch with Americans during his White House campaign. His choices have won praise from Republicans relieved by his more conventional choices, but could risk angering voters who rallied behind his calls for upending the political system.
Two of Trump's early picks are wealthy financial industry insiders with ties to the kinds of institutions he railed against as a candidate.
Elaine Chao, his choice for transportation secretary and an accomplished political figure in her own right, is married to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell - blending family and political power in a way Trump fiercely criticized campaign rival Hillary Clinton for. Jeff Sessions, Trump's selection for attorney general, has spent two decades in the Senate, and Tom Price, his health and human services nominee, is a six-term congressman.
As a candidate, Trump said Wall Street had created "tremendous problems" for the country.
Mnuchin and Ross also have financial links to Trump's White House bid, with Mnuchin having led the campaign's fundraising efforts. Trump repeatedly bragged that his personal wealth - he mostly self-funded his campaign during the primaries - meant he would not be beholden to donors who might expect their financial contributions to be repaid with powerful jobs or insider access.
"I can't be bought," Trump said during the campaign. "I won't owe anybody anything."
Trump's transition team brushed aside questions about whether there are inconsistencies between the president-elect's campaign rhetoric and his Cabinet picks.
"These are experts who know how to win," spokesman Jason Miller said Wednesday.

I rest my case.
AP should be listed under “Fake News”
Who are these people?
Never-Trump whiners?
I don’t agree with this article. Trump’s cabinet picks are great and the individuals he have picked are specialists in what Trump needs to get done.
Please, why post AP shite when we already can predict what it will say? What’s the point?
Anybody who Trump picks will be vilified by the AP - I’d like to hear who their ideal candidates for these positions should be.
I guess the AP thinks Trump should hire people who have absolutely no expertise in they field he is promoting them to.
Hey, it worked for Obama. For the country...not so much.
The first sentence is one big lie. So I didn’t read any further. Who does he expect Trump to appoint to top posts? Farmers? Bums?
I bet only swamp dwellers even know who is the secretary of transportation. Show of hands, without looking it up...who here knows the name of Obama’s secretary of transportation?
Breitbart posters who say let’s abolish everything yeeeeeaaashhh!!!
While I do have some reservations about Trump’s cabinet picks so far, I also trust that he knows what he’s doing, he’s picking people he knows will follow his lead, and most importantly, he knows will be loyal in the long run.
Sessions is a good choice for sure, although I always thought Trey Gowdy would be good too. I know some people say he hasn’t gotten a lot done, but he’s also been stonewalled every step of the way and never gave up, and has an excellent record as a prosecutor. He’s also just an investigator now, not a prosecutor.
The rest I don’t know a lot about, but they seem to be pretty solid. I do have to wonder about the woman who is going to be over education, she’s known as a common core supporter. 9can’t remember her name.)
Overall, I have to just trust his instincts...
Is the media really that stupid? You don’t drain the swamp but kicking everyone out and not using anyone expertise. I don’t know if they are this dumb or purposely misrepresenting things. Also, would you prefer he select broke people from Black lives matters to the the treasury?
I’ll give him 100 days to see how things play out before rendering judgment.
It’s like Mark Levin, he’s just there to complain. That’s ALL he does, he sounds like a liberal
The left feels that the choices should come from academia.
So far, all of Trump’s appointments are in the “can’t be bought” category.
I didn't come close to getting that far. I quit after reading "Julie Pace".
First off:
As for the economic team:
I was listening to #NeverTrump Levin on my way back from a client tonight. He was railing on about Trumps picks not being Conservative and part of the swamp because Commerce and Treasury heads are Billionaires.
I was tempted to call his show and ask him who would he put in charge of these Departments? Freddy the Freeloader? I sure wouldn’t want a bonehead academic or some moron that writes for Kiplinger.
I was just too tired from working a 14 hour day to be willing to deal with him. I did want to call him up and say ...”Get off my radio, you big dope!”
