Pope Francis on Saturday said an “epidemic of animosity” against people of other races or religions was hurting the weakest in society, striking a note of caution against the rise of populist nationalism.
Little more than a week after Donald Trump was elected the next U.S. president, buoying anti-immigrant parties in Europe and elsewhere, the pope noted “how quickly those among us with the status of a stranger, an immigrant or a refugee become a threat, take on the status of an enemy…”
“An enemy because they come from a distant country or have different customs. An enemy because of the color of their skin, their language or their social class. An enemy because they think differently or even have a different faith,” he said at a ceremony to induct new cardinals.
While not naming any country, Francis appeared to refer to anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim attitudes that surfaced during the U.S. campaign and since the election. …

As an every-Sunday-go-to -Mass-Catholic I am waiting...still waiting for Pope Frankie to say something...anything about the sins of the Left and Planned Parenthood. He cares wayyyy too much about the immigration policies of the USA than he does for the selling of baby parts...just awful......I will still go to Mass but will NOT abide by anything Pope Frankie says...fraud of frauds...sad....
I was was a fan of the 2 popes that preceded Francis, even though I’m a Protestant. Despite not agreeing 100% with their theology I thought they were remarkably accomplished, honest men who were a credit to the Catholic Church and a benefit to the world at large. This Pope, however, is an embarrassment and a fraud.
As a baptized, lifelong Catholic and believer, alter boy, once possibly a priest under consideration, I am ashamed of this pope. It almost seems he has been hired by the Democrat party! There is NOTHING I know about Catholicism that bears any relation to what this pope espouses! I am SO disappointed!
Maybe someone can put a Pope back in Avignon.
