What began as a wrong text from an Arizona grandmother to a 17-year-old ended in a heartwarming story.
Wanda Dench thought she was texting her grandson when she sent out details about Thanksgiving dinner, KSAZ reports
But instead, 17-year-old high school senior Jamal Hinton got the random message while in class.
Jamal texted back asking who it was, and Dench responded with: "It's your grandma."
Jamal asked for her picture "just to double check."
Dench responded with a photo of herself. Jamal then sent her a photo of himself to establish that they were not related. But he figured he'd ask if the offer for Thanksgiving dinner still stood.
Dench, a complete stranger, said she would still save a plate for him because "that's what grandmas do. Feed everyone."
LOL...couldn’t agree more...we normally don’t have coverage when we hike. But the hike near Ketchum last week had coverage and the top of Mt. Washburn has a ranger lookout and is bristling with antennas.
Nice pic.
I understand the whys and wherefores of it, but there are at least 5-20% of the population who spend their waking hours, with faces buried in a phone, texting, and can’t functionally form a simple 3-5-7-10 word sentence, give directions, safely drive a car, fill out a paper form, function normally, without that crutch and go thru mental withdrawl without it.
They’re going to be the ‘zombies’ after the EMP hits.
When I think about that, I fondly remember letters, stamps, zipcodes and mailboxes.
I’m surprised you got service. One of the nice things about being out there is no calls. But occasionally you get surprise service somewhere. I usually only take the phone to track how many miles I have gone.
I use the phone to track miles (MapMyRun); get detailed maps (GaiaGPS); listen to music; take pics; and sometimes send texts. It is amazing what’s in the pocket with these things.
No texting for me! No tv, no cell phone, no radio, no nothing....just me and my rock. This post is coming to you via smoke signals to my friend on the far mountain who has a computer.
I saw the kid interviewed this morning and he seemed nice enough ......
Granny is a cradle robber.
That damn, evil electronic communication! oh, wait...
Coming from a buggy whip manufacturer, not surprising.
WTF?? ROFLMAO!
OMW - there in 5.
My late father-in-law was a professor who taught an American history class which was required for all freshmen students.
He always had numerous young foreign students in his class who were away from their families for the first time, with nowhere to go for Thanksgiving.
Mother-in-law always encouraged him to invite at least 5, sometimes more, every year. It was always a joyous learning experience for everyone.
