Director Paul Verhoeven bemoans Hollywood's lack of sex

"Basic Instinct" director Paul Verhoeven complained on Sunday that Hollywood had stopped making "challenging" movies featuring provocative sex as it clamored to cash in on mainstream audiences.

The Dutch filmmaker, famous for a slew of films that shocked audiences with their sex and violence, said studios chasing ratings were now mainly interested in the lucrative "PG-13" market.

"If you say it has to be PG-13, there are a lot of things you cannot do. You cannot be provocative, you cannot be controversial, you cannot be sexual, erotic, in a direct way," he told AFP.

Verhoeven revealed how he had originally intended to make the movie in Hollywood before numerous American actresses turned down the lead role -- fearing it too controversial -- forcing him to relocate to France.

"There's no problem in France. As a director you can do what you want," he told AFP. "I escaped to France because I couldn't find anything that was for me challenging. Why bother, you know?"

So now we're all happy. Bon voyage.

Hard to believe it’s the same guy that directed one of the best movies about WWII, “Soldier of Orange.”

Old story about the showing of Star Wars and a Middle Easterner commented on how most races and ethnicity’s were depicted but there were no Muslims...

That's what Richard Pryor said about "Logan's Run", "It's set in the future and there ain't no n_____s in it, I said, "White folks ain't plannin' for us to be here."

We gave up on mainstream TV a few years back due to programming issues, sex, homo’s & political agendas being a huge negative that helped quit cable.

There needs to be choice, which is why many films have stories with zero sex and politicking.

Well there is your answer Mr. Verhoeven. Stay in France and leave us alone. You'll be able to retain your perverted principles and we won't have to listen to you whine.

Well, obviously, they now have identified the hole in the market, they should easily be willing to risk all their assets in making a couple movies to cash in on it.

I used to joke with my husband that directors/writers picked the people they wanted to see have sex on the screen. Then wrote a movie around it.

One of the things I found delightfully impressive about Hollywood is that in an interview Chris Pratt said that he would not do nude scenes out of his wife (Anna Farris - with whom they had a child I think).

The idiot was always striping down in Parks and Rec:

My bad, because P&R is effing stupid and I never watched it. But now I’m assuming what he meant wasn’t that he’d be naked or something but not in bed with some b!tch hitting it.

If you have something like that, I’d like to see it.

After the 80s in which sex was always depicted in R movies with too much detail, pounding, moaning, scenes lasting too long, it is refreshing these days to have movies that show that people are having sex but more briefly and discreetly, so you can watch a film with your kids or in mixed groups without feeling too uncomfortable.

You want detailed long sex scenes? There’s plenty of porn.

A moment to savor.....Hollyweirdos are going ballistic.

.....the Center for Responsive Politics reports Clinton pocketed $22 million in contributions from the wealthy/liberal entertainment industry, compared to a mere $290,000 for Trump...

Take a look at the map of what Clinton won....the top 10 populations centers where most of the wealth, commerce and power is located.....and a couple of SW states that have a huge influx of Mexican immigrants.

Hillary lost the bulk of America.

Just goes to prove....the liberal rich talk only amongst themselves and their hired Mexican help.

And to think, it all began in 1968 with the murder of Bobby Kennedy, and ended with a joke of a movie ratings system. Films had added nudity scenes filmed and added to films to get the “R” rating!

I remember back then (1970) seeing news reports of people at a major theater covering their faces because the film was THE STEWARDESSES! 3-D! rated “X”!
And then there were other films..”SO BOLD IT had to be RATED “XXX”!

Now days a person can get their fill of voyeurism on line.

My bad, because P&R is effing stupid and I never watched it.

P&R is certainly effing stupid because it is a portrayal of the "government family" concept underlying the liberal fantasy. Although since that implies a father, the father stand-in, Ron Swanson, was obviously supposed to be the hateful liberal fantasy of men, but turned out to be brilliantly played by Nick Offerman and literally stole the show.

The mom? Hillary clone Leslie Nope, played by real life Hillary clone, sarcastic hypocritical nasty progressive narcissistic egomaniacal useful idiot Amy Poehler, is utterly, completely unbearable. She's also one hundredth of how insane Hillary really is - but bless her angry heart, little Amy doesn't have the remotest clue of that.

The scripts are ludicrous, but importantly, true to progressive fantasy. If you want to understand where the snowflakes came from, watch the show with the idea of millions of kids believing every word and scenario. In a just world, the writers, producers and actors (except Nick) would be on trial for crimes against humanity.

My dog and my dumbass cat (who doesn’t even move out of the way when you walk towards her going somewhere else right through where she sits) are more intelligent than Amy Poehler.

There's another guy out there, Neil McDonough, who has the same clause in his contracts. No sex scenes out of respect for his wife. Dunno his politics, but I respect the man for his integrity.

Was pretty good in "Band of Brothers", and turns up in movies a couple of times a year. Good character actor. He usually winds up playing the heavy. :-)

I know I wouldn’t want my wife “play-acting” a screw-scene with some guy for a movie. It’s fair to consider what would upset your wife.
