Saturday Night Live kicked off its first episode after the presidential election with a powerful tribute to both losing candidate Hillary Clinton and legendary musician Leonard Cohen.
The episode, which was hosted by Dave Chappelle, opened with cast member Kate McKinnon performing a cover of Cohens classic track Hallelujah while dressed as Clinton.
I did my best, it wasnt much. I couldnt feel, so I tried to touch. Ive told the truth, I didnt come to fool you, McKinnon sang, as she sat behind a piano on the Studio 8H main stage. And even though it all went wrong. Ill stand before the Lord of Song. With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah.

Hillary lost.
Trump won.
Hallelujah.
Thanks...I just watched “Black Jeopardy”. It’s another classic. I gave up on SNL more than a decade ago, when they seemed to have forgotten what excellent humor is. Maybe it’s time to start watching again.
I remember the SNL right after the 1984 election. Gary Kroeger who had been the Mondale impersonator (Mary Gross was Geraldine Ferraro). Gary Kroeger said something like, “Ok, so this year I started working on a *Walter Mondale* impersonation. I figured I’d have a character I could do for at least 4 years right? (starts getting enraged). Yeah, GREAT THINKING, KROEGER. Thanks a LOT, WALTER, MR. *13 ELECTORAL VOTES*!!!”
Hillary lost.
Trump won.
Hallelujah.
amen
(OUTSTANDING, samtheman. Thanks.)
HRC should’ve checked her “entitlement”.
Yes, there were people who wrote articles and on facebook saying that it was as devastating as the attack on Pearl Harbor or 9/11 or the assassination of JFK.
Such drama queens.
You pain would bring them joy and there would be little coverage in the media that 50% of the voters were fearful for this nation’s future with a Hillary presidency following Obama’s terms, especially picking Scalia’s replacement on the court.
The press would be covering “Happy days are here again...” type stories. And we’d still be getting the phony “someone yelled Trump and took off my headscarf!” stories.
Hillary’s loss shouldn’t have come as a surprise, the Clintons didn’t have a Perot in the race to siphon off votes this time. The mid-term win in 1994 (’Republican Revolution’) was a rebuke of Hillary’s attempt to national healthcare.
Gee, what a hero she is.
They will start making fun of America’s president on SNL again...
Hadn’t seen that one. Very well done, thanks for posting the link.
Never a Leonard Cohen fan. Don’t hate his stuff. Don’t care for it either.
Hillary on the other hand......is a hateful person. She brings out the hate in me. The lyrics of the song don’t fit her. She is a crooked lying bitch
The sainting of Hillary begins.
the day after the election a lady at work who is usually sweet snapped at me, and two people honked at me on the road. A lot of people were stressed and on edge. I remember what it felt like when obama got in so shoe on other foot finally.
Thanks for posting that. I had only heard the Don Henley version. Great song.
That was hilarious, and right on point.
I did like Chapelle’s line about liberals leaving the country, “You go ahead, I’m gonna stick around and see how this tax cut works out”.
It isn’t, I can assure you.
I agree that Concrete Blonde’s version of Everybody Knows is terrific.
Hallelujah!--Nat Shilkret & the Victor Orchestra (vocal by Franklyn Baur)
