Okay the election is over and all is well but now I have to ask the question: Could any other Republican besides Donald Trump have beaten Hillary in the election?
Personally I don't think so. Jake Novak of CNBC wrote that Trump was essentially a third party candidate who was endorsed by the Republicans. Many Democrat voters in the Rust Belt which was key to victory voted not for a Republican but for Trump who himself repudiated by many/most of the Republican establishment.
When I look back at the other Republican candidates, I see no one who would have been capable of beating Hillary. Jeb Bush? Puh-lease. He would have spent a lot of his general election campaign apologizing plus he was a complete throwback to the past.
Ted Cruz. Okay I initially liked Cruz but I have come to see faults in him as a candidate. For one thing he had sort of a preachy tone which doesn't translate well to the campaign trail.
Chris Christie? Good on the campaign trail but Bridgegate would have doomed him.
John Kasich? A disgusting human being as we found out.
Marco Rubio? It would have been like a boy campaigning.
All I can say is we are extremely lucky that Donald Trump came on the scene. Only he was able to save us from a Hillary Regime which would have brought a liberal Supreme Court, eroded the Second Amendment, brought hordes of illegals and terrorist "refugees" across America, and, I believe, the basic end of our civilization.
Instead we dodged that horrible Hillary Bullet and the Democrats are now in total disarray. America has been saved and we have one man to thank for that...Donald Trump.
Cruz? Fortitude and fire? Bwhahahaha. Cruz is a P***y and a weakling who ran a dishonest campaign, played dirty tricks then claimed ‘clean hands’ and traded on the name of Christ to get votes.
Cruz needs to go away
Please stop this speculative crap.
Before that, I sort of knew some stuff, but didn't pay all THAT much attention to politics. I have no idea why, that that election cycle had ALL of the adults talking/discussing/debating and I was fascinated by it all. I read ALL of the political literature that was in my home and paid more attention to the news. Now bear in mind that I was really young...really, really young, but I guess the excitement intrigued me and my mother was well on her way to turning me into the well informed political and news junkie she wanted me to be. :-)
Two things about Ike that really turned me off him: 1) he didn't really stand up against the howling mob, who were, even back then, trashing and harassing Nixon 2) the way he had promised help and backing to Hungary and then hung back and did less than NOTHING, in '56.
SPOT ON ! :-)
You were here when I beat Mark, in some back and forths, a coupled of times and he went all nutso. If anything, he has gotten much worse since then.
Very good analysis! I think the way he outworked basically every other presidential candidate in history had a large impact as well. And lets not forget to thank Julian Assange. Honorable mention goes to Michael Moore who attempted to help Hillary Clinton by trying to suck. in Trump supporters by saying he knew how they felt. But he inadvertently outsmarted his own fat a$$ by giving 5 minutes of the best appeal to Midwesterners for Trump of the entire election. And that 5 minutes is all most voters ever saw. Thanks Michael!!!
...with this Yeb! rally:
There are many, many more pixels in the Yeb! picture. Yeb! The People's Choice. We'll get 'em next election...please clap...
And as an interesting aside....Trump beat Clinton, in getting the Millennial ( especially the college age voters ) in Wi.! Let me repeat that...IN....WISCONSIN; EVEN IN MADISON ! :-)
You could detect: this is a leader of men. He didn't give a canned speech: he spoke from the heart. A guy from the balcony shouted out to him a couple times and he responded to him both times! Nobody had ever done that before. But it was signature Trump -- he's having a conversation with us...
He put the nation on notice that he was different. Inner strength, confidence in himself, a straight shooter who listens...
Wow, it just knocked your socks off.
Hey HL27 and V K Lee, when did you first get the premonition that Trump was the one?
If we’re honest we do have to admit the impact wikileaks had on the campaign. It was slow torture of the Clintons.
The main reason they couldn’t have beaten Hillary is they were all stalking horses for her to win the election.
Except for Carson, Huckabee and apparently Cruz. Maybe one or two others.
No one who ran as a GOPe could have won.
// I spent 8 years with gut feeling Hillary was next president no matter who we ran..//
Reasonable considering who we keep putting up normally (Jeb, Romney, dole) but until last year few saw Trump coming and he was definitely NOT the status quo.
She did as well as she did because the loser snowflakes were all “lalalala first woman president lalalalala” Iheir lives are so empty they wanted to be ‘part of history’
“Trump IS the Only one! They Cannot intimidate Trump. He’ll get in their face.
It’s high time we Have a President With Gonads!”
The “bigly” PLUS was that President-elect Donald J. Trump has not been BOUGHT AND PAID FOR!
When he announced!!! And then when he called McCain what he did and showed Graham’s phone number at the rally at the border...
No living republican
YES! Very Good Point!
Nailed It !
