Actor Robert Vaughn, best known as the secret agent Napoleon Solo in The Man from UNCLE, has died aged 83.

Vaughn was also famous for his role as Lee in the Magnificent Seven, and television roles in Hustle and Coronation Street.

The iconic actor died after a battle with acute leukaemia, his manager, Matthew Sullivan, told the BBC.

Vaughn died in New York on Friday morning surrounded by his family, he said.

David McCallum, from the hit TV show NCIS, who as Illya Kuryakin starred alongside Vaughn in The Man From UNCLE, told TVLine.com he was "utterly devastated" by the news.

"Robert and I worked together for many years and losing him is like losing a part of me. My deepest sympathies go out to Linda and the Vaughn family," he said.

Vaughn, who was "a few months shy of 84" had been seeking treatment for his leukaemia, Mr Sullivan said.

O wow didn’t know that. When I looked it up didn’t mention his death. O well, still we are losing many great ones from yesteryear and were stuck with a bunch of pansies.

Eli Wallach as Tuco was magnificent. He never shut up he was perfect matched with Clint and Lee van Cleef..
I think this is one of the best movies ever made.

Tuco WAS magnificent. That sneaky look he had was great. He was a PERFECT groveler, the the perfect ahole.
The producers could NOT HAVE chosen a MORE perfect "BAD" than vanCleef....eeeeeveeiil "Angel Eyes."

Both my husband and I also thought that this WAS one of the best movies ever made. Ah-ah ah ah ah...I can hear that Ennio Morricone theme! ♫ ♬

The ONLY fault and it wasn't big, was the guy who played the northern or southern side general: ...he was swigging booze from A WINE BOTTLE, which looked like it was RIGHT off the red-checkered tablecloth of your local Italian restaurant. Lol. It reminds me FORCIBLY, each time, that the movie was 100% produced by Italianos. BRAVO!

He was in the Magnificent Seven too. He played a gun fighter who had lost his nerve.

I thought that was Battle Beyond the Stars

MFU was intended as a sendup, but they were a little too subtle about it. Look at the opening, going through a tailor shop, really? When they made Get Smart, they knew they had to be more obvious about it.
