Actor Robert Vaughn, best known for playing Napoleon Solo on the NBC spy drama The Man From U.N.C.L.E., died surrounded by his family after battling acute leukemia, his manager Mathew Sullivan tells FOX411.
He was 83.
Mr. Vaughn passed away at 7:30 this morning, Sullivan said, calling Vaughn a great human being and a great actor.
The Man from U.N.C.L.E. aired from 1964-68 and made Vaughn one of TVs biggest stars.

Robert Vaughn's
Bullett character was Walter Chalmers.
I always loved this exchange:
Chalmers: We both know how careers are made. Integrity is something you sell to the public.
Bullett: You sell whatever you want, but don't sell it here tonight.

The UN in U.N.C.L.E. stood for “United Nations”. (The United Nations Command for Law and Enforcement).

(The above is not a statement of fact. It is either satire or opinion. Or both.)
To: TBP
“United Network” rather than “United Nations”, albeit the latter was implied.

I was younger but to me it was the coolest show. In retrospect the show was a poor mans James Bond. It did have an amazing jazz soundtrack. Mr. Waverly was an extension of his character from North By Northwest. Vaughn was a leftist but McCallum is an anti socialist. One of the reasons he moved to America he said. Conversely Vaughn was an actual committed leftist and couldn’t stand living in America and moved to England.

Another one from my youth is gone forever. Haven’t seen Man From U.N.C.L.E. since it originally aired, but it was one of my favorites shows back then. Thanks Robert Vaughn all for the great entertainment and happy memories of my younger daze. RIP.

The UN in U.N.C.L.E. stood for United Nations. (The United Nations Command for Law and Enforcement). No, it was United Network Command for Law Enforcement. Just a guess on my part, I suspect it was originally going to be United Nations and someone figured out it would alienate a lot of people.
