In the time of the Roman Empire, when a General won a major battle for Rome, he would hire or press an Auriga into service. An Auriga was a slave, albeit a very literate one, who would whisper into the General's ear "Memento homo"(remember you are only a mortal man) during the celebrations and processions.
I will serve as Free Republic's Auriga, today.
While I am ELATED that Donald Trump has seemingly cinched victory, I am forced to remind us all that America has just entered it's most dangerous time in the entire history of the country.
The most dangerous time in Americas history starts tomorrow and ends on Jan 20, 2017.
Obama still is in power. He can create a lot of chaos. He can even start a nuclear war.
We are victors on the battlefield. But, I whisper, "Remember, we are only mortal men."
It is indeed a sensitive time but those who will be leaving also have multiple distractions to deal with - cleaning up “loose ends,” burying skeletons, trying to remove information, trying to recall where other skeletons are buried and what the implications would be should they come to light, and then how to deal with those scenarios. Working to save their own skins will require a lot of attention and energy.
It would come as no surprise were there to be a series of “accidents” or “suicides” among the crowd in the coming months, as they implement their perceptions of “damage control,” devour their own and try to cover their tracks.
Well said. A battle has been won. The war continues.
What will be learned from the recent battle?
1) Most voters did not vote for Trump ... nor for Clinton. They voted for the lesser of two evils. The 35% who voted enthusiastically for Trump should be humbled and learn from that.
New battles arise on several fronts.
2) Short term, what will Obama do? Obama wants a legacy for himself. If he were smart he would push Congress to re-patriate the trillions held overseas to avoid taxes. That would greatly benefit the economy and give Obama a positive legacy.
It’s good for the country, even if not what Obama deserves.
3) The left previously argued for ignoring the constitution and placing massive power in the Presidency. This is an opportune time to educate the left on the value of the constitution and limited government.
4) The Senate will not learn from the loss of Sen Kirk, (allegedly R) IL, who was the most anti-Trump of all Republicans anywhere. Both Senate Dems and McConnell types will obstruct good parts of Trumps agenda.
We need to start now to identify which bad Senators (regardless of party) are vulnerable in 2018 and focus on them. We need to start now to build potential candidates and organizations to run against the bad Senators. (True of the House also. But much more true of the Senate.)
The Fed Government is so messed up Trump will need support in 2018 to continue the draining of the swamp. This is not a one and done situation.
5) Trump is a negotiator. By definition a negotiator gives up a little in one area to gain even more in another area. When Trump negotiates we should consider who is getting the better end of the compromise and support compromises that are in our favor.
Excellent.
BTW the Latino Outreach (of which you have been part) seems somewhat successful. Count me in (much more than I have been).
Can’t believe that Georgia was even THAT close. We need to outreach to Latinos more.
Yes, Laz, of course you are right, and thanks for the warning. GOOD MORNING!
Good morning sir. I got chastised last night for serving this warning, but the Roman Aurigas probably got the same treatment. :)
“Auriga! Give it a rest! We just conquered Carthage!!! Let us enjoy that!!!”
I am not a sir, but thank you.
Then we should date.
Sounds great to me, but let me check with my husband and get back to you. He’s a little distracted right now, “basking the glory”...
The last line of Patton. One of.my favorites.
Ok, check with him and let me know. x_X
I’m sure we are all very much aware of the destruction Obama is capable of causing. This ain’t over.
Pray for America.
The battle will never be over. Trump defeated the dimrat media, but they are not going anywhere. I expect that on day 1 of the Trump admin, the media will start reporting the truth about the economy and blame it on Trump.
Exactly. Trump can start looking "presidential" in his speeches, but he needs to stick to his campaign promises and, at least behind the scenes, ruthlessly pursue anyone who has broken laws and/or subverted the rule of law. If nothing else, that has to be a cornerstone of his administration. If he does not do this, in 4 years we will be fighting this battle all over again with the same dark forces.
For Greater Glory,
the Hollywood movie on DVD would say that the character Catorce voted for Trump. The other types in the movie did not vote for Trump.
We should have movie nights the next few months; watch movies and relax while using them to identify the various types of voters we want to win over and how to win them over. Armendariz got 45 or 46% of the vote for congress in his mostly DeKalb County district. There is no reason why we can’t win that congressional district in the near future. We can send Hank Johnson to help prop up those Pacific Islands from sinking.
Thanks for the ping!
Yeah, I’ve already considered it.
But, I’m so dang happy WE won!
