"If I don't win, this will be the greatest waste of time, money and energy in my lifetime," says Donald Trump.
Herewith, a dissent. Whatever happens Tuesday, Trump has made history and has forever changed American politics.
Though a novice in politics, he captured the party of Lincoln with the largest turnout of primary voters ever, and he has inflicted wounds on the nation's ruling class from which it may not soon recover.
Bush I and II, Mitt Romney, the neocons and the GOP commentariat all denounced Trump as morally and temperamentally unfit. Yet, seven of eight Republicans are voting for Trump, and he drew the largest and most enthusiastic crowds of any GOP nominee.
Not only did he rout the Republican elites, he ash-canned their agenda and repudiated the wars into which they plunged the country.
Trump did not create the forces that propelled his candidacy, but he recognized them, tapped into them and unleashed a gusher of nationalism and populism that will not soon dissipate.
Whatever happens Tuesday, there is no going back now.
How could the Republican establishment advance anew the trade and immigration policies that their base has so thunderously rejected?
How can the GOP establishment credibly claim to speak for a party that spent the last year cheering a candidate who repudiated the last two Republican presidents and the last two Republican nominees?
Do mainstream Republicans think that should Trump lose a Bush Restoration lies ahead? The dynasty is as dead as the Romanovs.
The media, whose reputation has sunk to congressional depths, has also suffered a blow to their credibility.

If Trump loses I look for him to start a media network that concentrates on the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. I see him hiring non-traditional reporters interested in telling the truth Americans want to hear.
Trump could make a network like that fly.
Even if he wins, Donald Trump, Jr. should do that. Might actually make more of a difference than holding the Presidency.
This election is basically about the good guys versus the bad guys. Good versus evil. Let us pray the Trump wins. If not the bad guys win.
The ruling was already emasculated. Just look at the “metrosexuals” they’re just selfish little people.
Agreed
Pat is right on the money.
I am hopeful the American people someday decide that they too yearn for freedom and rise up to throw off the shackles of the ruling class.
We made a step forward towards that in this election, but there is still much work to be done.
Hannity should join him ... I heard Hannity say last night as soon as the smoke settles from the election he’s going after Republicans, and by name starting with Kasich, Jeb Bush, and Lindsey Graham for starters, and he’s going to hit hard ...
You can bet they won’t let it happen again. Both parties have already been talking about how to stop future Bernie and Trumps. And you know they will. They thing only the elites (party doesn’t matter) should be able to “rule over us”. No more “governing” by the consent of the people if Trump loses.
DEATH TO THE UNIPARTY!
I don’t agree. If he wins, yes. But if he loses, I think the ruling class will become even worse than they are now and feel emboldened to do pretty much whatever they want.
But it will also make liberalism poisonous and unpalatable to enough people that it will be a long, LONG time before liberals are installed into power.
Regardless of the outcome, Hillary Clinton will go down in flames tonight, or go down in posterity as the worst president ever.
Indeed. There will never be another outsider in the General, just as there was never another outsider in the debates since Perot. They just close the door.
As for this article...overly optimistic. Power does what it wants.
Looking forward to it (add the commentariat: Kraut-hammer, Medved, George Will, etc...).
May I add? I think Trump has also EXPOSED the so-called REPUBLICAN elite for what they really are.
They are merely politicians who are REPUBLICAN only because they needed the (R) in order to get elected in the first place. i firmly believe that if the so-called RINOS had lived in a different state their last names would have ended with the letter (D).
No matter the outcome, Trump has done this country a great a great service.
I’ll grant “exposed”; but not “emasculated”. Yet.
If we lose Clinton will have a pogrom that will make Russia and turkey look mild. It will be catastrophic if trump loses
