True but it'll be harder to unseat an incumbent president with charges of "he'll start nuclear war" and "he's in kahoots with the kremlin" and "he didn't pay taxes 15 years ago" and "we found some women who says in 1977 Trump reached over and..." or "he lacks the temperment..."
He'll have a record then as president, they'll have to run against that and not strawman arguments about his character. Unless he's a disaster, it's very hard to unseat an incumbent president. Unless you run the only guy in the whole country who cannot criticize his signature and highly unpopuler issue (I'm looking at you, Mitt Romney)...
One needs to be careful with straight line extrapolations. Everything is always in flux and everyone is always thinking. There is no way she is ready for prime time in 4 short years. In eight years, after Trump’s second term, the political environment could be completely different.
Ex: I was a leftist who didn’t vote in the 1980 election, but I assumed Carter would win. I woke up the next morning and my first reaction was “This is the counter-revolution.” Well, it was. My business took off like a rocket under Reagan. I voted straight R from then on, becoming more and more conservative as I watched the left ruin our country one institution at a time.
Now, having been betrayed by the GOPe, I am voting Trump to stop them all, all the elites, globalists and assorted malign utopian idiots. Trump is running on the Republican line, but he isn’t a Republican.
None of us knows what parties will exist in what format in 4-8 years, where the populace will be in terms of what issues or what black swans will emerge in the form of individuals or events.
One step at a time. No reason to assume inevitability of anything/anyone that far out.
George W. Bush almost lost in 2000 because the fears that much of his base had that he’d be a drunk alcoholic President. By 2004 that was a non-issue. Same goes for Trump, and the fears that he’ll be groping every woman in America, as he will have plenty of time to overcome those hurdles.

Great points all of them. You’re right, 2-4 years ago I never thought Trump or someone like him could have the success enjoyed. I suppose after the last two GE cycles I’ve soured on the voting public and become very cynical. Watching HRC last in politics as long as she has has also contributed to this. But yes, things can turn on a dime. Hopefully this is the latest counter-revolution and we can have a renaissance of sorts.

2007 our tiny little mom & pop made nearly $80k. We are back to slightly over 1/2 that after 8 years of zer0 & company.
I blame everyone who voted for zer0 directly for the economic crash and continues depression. Add in no interest for 8 years. We were scared out of the market and never had the guts to re-enter. I may not live long enough to take advantage of a Trump Renaissance,but it will do my heart good.
That’s such a shame to hear and makes me angry. I hold all Dem voters responsible for current conditions and have been whittling liberal ‘friends’ out of my life. They blindly (or intentionally because of mentally ill self hatred) applaud the burning down of our country and have no concern or sense of responsibility for the suffering they cause. We have no liberal friends any longer and liberal family alternates between literal shunning and trying to pick fights. This summer one went after my husband for being a neocon just before all the #NeverTrumpers came out for Hillary! Been totally silent since.
Unfortunately, nearly all clients for our service business are indoctrinated and will not even consider being wrong. Our manufacturing biz is more removed from direct contact...orders come in, get filled, checks arrive, etc...so I have no idea and would ever initiate political talk.
I used to try and argue. Now, I just hold my tongue and think how good it will feel to watch them see America has awakened. I’m sure we all feel that way.
I was silent here on FR for awhile, now, I’m thankful for all of you. It helps so much to hear the experiences and thoughts of others like ourselves. We all know how corrosive hatred is, and I do try to not let it overwhelm me, but these people are destroying the best place on Earth. Who ever thought we’d think Poland looked like such a great place to live!! I cannot forgive them and I will never forget.
