Jose Fernandez Found With Cocaine, Alcohol In System At Death (Miami Marlins pitcher)
CBS Miami ^ | 10/29/2016 | James Amalino

MIAMI (CBSMiami) — Toxicology reports released Saturday in the death of Jose Fernandez have revealed that the star pitcher used drugs and alcohol just before crashing his boat off Miami Beach.

Fernandez and two friends, Emilio Macias, 27, and Eduardo Rivero, 25, died last month.

Reports show Fernandez’s blood alcohol was at 0.147, nearly twice the legal limit, and he had cocaine and other substances in his system at the time of his death.

Both Macias and Rivero were found to be under the legal limit for alcohol. Though, Rivero’s blood showed cocaine and other substances, as well. Macias was determined to not have any cocaine in his system.

It’s believed that the 24-year-old Fernandez was behind the wheel of the Kaught Looking, the 32-foot SeaVee he owned that crashed along a jetty near Government Cut on September 25th. Authorities, however, have not yet made this determination.

In a statement issued by Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez, the disclosure of the autopsy and toxicology reports for Fernandez, Macias and Rivero came after numerous requests and a battle for public release.

There is always at least one fool in every crowd. Thanks for making the fool in this particular crowd so easily identifiable.

Sad. What was it Robin Williams said, “Cocaine is God’s way of telling you that you have too much money.”

Drugs and alcohol and then he gets the bright idea to go drive in this case a boat. Most folks aren’t doing any of that....suggesting that someone needs to get out more tells me you run in dangerous circles

Yup, some forms of stupid can’t be fixed

Same goes for the hypocrisy of all those who did similar or even more stupid things when they were young.

Most folks out there don’t behave that way whether you know that or not

I was referring to all those who DID drink and drive when they were around his age, and possibly worse, perhaps even still today, yet, acting holier than thou, pounced on him for doing it. ie, hypocrites

I don’t know what others stories are. I do know that fewer people did that than I thought from amongst people I know

Yup. The guy worked his butt off to become one of the best pitchers in the world. He could have had all the raw talent in the world, you aren’t performing at his level in MLB without tons of grueling work. Baseball at that level doesn’t allow it.

That said, he apparently had a hard time adjusting to the newfound wealth his efforts brought. There but for the grace of God go I, if I was somehow famous and wealthy at 24. I sure did enough dumb stuff without being famous and wealthy for sure. It could have ended up just as bad easily.

Our son has been a financial adviser for some very high profile athletes, almost all NFL,. An absolutely thankless job, in fact he hired an assistant to take “Monday morning calls” from these guys to cover weekend expenses, ranging from expensive new cars to posting bail for stepfathers. These were just kids thinking the big dollars were forever......so sad. No matter what he did to secure their future after football, it never worked.
