Dear Twitter, he posted. What is the song you most detest and despise? Thank you.
Within 48 hours, the bemused Brit, who had only around 1,000 Twitter followers, had received several thousand nominations from all over the world, and Lennons ballad was a repeat offender.
I think its the whole idea of talking about poverty and misery, while John was actually hanging around in his palatial New York townhouse, Carter tells The Post. Its the duplicity of the whole thing.

“We Built This City on Rock & Roll”. Hands down the absolut worst.
I saw Starship (ok Mickey Thomas and a bunch of unknowns. The guy playing guitar actually collapsed back stage of a heart attack and died right after their set) a few years ago and when they played that song my wife giggled through the whole song because she knows how much I hate that song. And no I didnt go to see them, they were opening up for Boston who I did go to see.
There are many, many worse...
Afternoon Delight-Starland Vocal Band
Dream Weaver-Gary Wright
I Am Woman-Helen Reddy
Morning After-Maureen McGovern
MacArthur Park-Richard Harris
You Light Up My Life-Debbie Boone
...just to name a few.
No "Free Bird" by Lynryd Skynyrd?
For the record, both are in my iPod, but these two songs seemingly appear on "worst" lists all the time.
Overall, I think the list sucks. There a some I agree with, but there are a lot of rock classics on that list that were shown no respect.
What I really love is when you’re at some sort of ecumenical event and some doofus sings Imagine followed by Kumbaya.
Either song causes me to stand up and leave.
I’ve learned to know before I go in what’s probably coming and don’t bother to attend.
My least favorite song in the world is Last Christmas. I run a Trail Life USA troop and someone (my son) told the boys in the troop, so at least once a meeting, they sing it to me. Unngggghhhh
You need to research a bit more, Lennon died a Capitalist, that for fun would debated economics with Socialist.
I love you, you love me, we’re a happy family...
I’d say it’s neck & neck with that ballad of unbridled hubris, “I did it my way”.
Nothing like a millionaire praising a socialist nihilist utopia he chose not to live. But ...Imagine has to tie with....Muskrat Love!
American Pie is on the list, at the source.
Ok, I found Baker Street, because he was listed under G, and not R.
That song sounded totally serious to me....and to millions and millions of others. Why do you think that visitors to Strawberry Fields (across from The Dakota...I've been there) sing that when they break into song?
Every song ever written and/or sung by Yoko Ono is worse than all of those and “Imagine.”
You're joking, right?
Some people pay more attention to lyrics and obviously the lyrics are going to divide people, to begin with religious people and atheists.
I knew better than to subject myself to Yoko Ono.
Whoa, I had forgotten Muskrat Love. Just terrible...BOTH VERSIONS.
You make some good points there, and I’m extremely you did not - even passively - insult me by adding to your list some of my all-time favorite songs:
