Is vw or the guvmint making you turn it in? I have always thought that vw diesels are very tough. vehicles today last twice as long as 30 years ago. people are regularly getting 300k out of cars with proper upkeep. Just wondering about the turn in.

Yes.

The government made Volkswagen provide an offer that would be difficult to refuse. Why?

1. My model has the Takada airbags that they are NOT repairing

2. This government drama dropped my car value from 18K to 8K instead of the 22K they are offering, if I am in an accident I am underwater on my loan. And my insurance only pays on car value, not car worth to Volkswagen.

3.I have not been overwhelmed with German engineering. Actually I think my Mazdas and Saabs have had much better design.

4. They are expensive to fix, particularly if they are worthless.

See #17 again. Buy a used Impala that has most of the depreciation wrung out of it already. Airbags are fine (and guaranteed), the engineering is pretty decent, and the repair bills are cheap vs. ANY European car.

No, I don’t work for GM. I just love my car as a great performer for the value.
