The last time I was in a Whataburger, the burger flipper dug deep down the backside of his pants for a long scratch. That was over a decade ago. Never again.

No, the special sauce is thousand island dressing.

Our German exchange student said they charged for the condiments. He loved going to restaurants here just for free condiments and free soft drink refills. And the Texas sized steaks!

I’m not a food snob but Big Macs are sickening.
It must be that special sauce. They really do make me sick.

I always thought they should have called that third pound burger they were trying out last year a thirder-pounder. You know they wanted to. But nobody listens to me.

The Big Mac was invented by James Delgatti, the original Pittsburgh McDonalds franchisee. My grandfather knew him.

Just like Clock Boy invented a digital alarm clock, right? ;)
Pittsburgh's Eat N Park was a 'Big Boy' franchisee in the '60s, and, like all Big Boy franchisees, was selling essentially the same burger that Delgatti 'invented' (triple sesame-bun, two thin patties, American cheese, lettuce, pickles, Thousand Island dressing).

Interesting, you listed a lot of food places. In my family we still cook most of our meals at home and eat out less frequently though my young adult kids eat out more often. Thanks.

I don’t know what people are eating, but the McDonalds drive-thrus in my area are packed at lunch time...

The kids' meals are mostly when we are on the road. We've lived in the midwest and the deep south, and our families are in Connecticut and western Canada. Road trips are 1,000+ miles each. Outside of those, my kids eat 97% at home. My wife makes all meals at home. When I am on the road for business etc. I also frequent these places. I also got married relatively late, and became well versed in these places during those years.

Great! My wife still bakes our weekly consumption of bread and while she is 85% employed, she does amazing things. I am happy to hear that some families still eat together at the dinner table.
