The Nobel Prize committee has always hadat besta fraught relationship with the United States when it comes to literature. It took three decades after the prize was formed before a U.S. author won the award, and that writer was Sinclair Lewis, a novelist who spent most of his ink excoriating his own country. As we are now into the third decade of a similar droughtnot since 1993 and Toni Morrison has an American wonit is harder all the time to argue down those who insist the U.S. is being intentionally snubbed.

To be fair, there arent a lot of American authors of prominence these days.
The one who cries out for a Nobel is Tom Wolfe.
But he wont get one of course, politics.
A genre author of genuinely high literary merit, and still living, whose works are probably outstanding examples of US letters, is the science fiction author Gene Wolfe - yeah, theres something about all those wolves.
The Nobel is nothing but a joke these days. American authors should be proud not to be on their list.
Black Balls Matter!
Toni Morrison; isn’t she the racist mulatto who hates white people?
Of course she should be rewarded for her hatred of me; it’s only fair.
Who cares. It’s a whole bunch of people who vote for their buddies - along political lines of course.
As Pat Buchanan wrote: “All my life, said Voltaire, I have had but one prayer: O Lord, make my enemies look ridiculous. And God granted it.
In awarding the Nobel Prize for Peace to Barack Obama, the Nobel committee has just made itself look ridiculous.”
Of course, that's because Archie wrote his books for him.
The Nobel Committee is a circle-jerk of Global Elitists...
Where’s the prize for Franklin W. Dixon??
Stan Lee should have won the Nobel prize.
A Nobel Prize in anything other than the sciences is worth about as much as a Dorkbama birth certificate.
But wait, there’s more.
The lib trolls are certain to go after the sciences, which are the only professions still requiring high IQ.
Assuredly, a Nobel Prize for some sort of climate change “research” is in the future.
After that, one can completely disregard anything coming out of Norway.
The Nobel prize for literature has been a bad joke almost from the outset.
I wish I could give you chapter and verse on an essay titled “The Ignoble Nobel” I read back in the 1980s, which argued that the literature prize committee has a long-standing preference for mediocrities.
My personal observation is that in recent years, multicultural considerations seem to prevail over merit.
There have been a few good recent picks, like V.S. Naipaul. But if it wasn’t for the fact that he’s Indian-Trinidadian-British, he probably never would have been considered.
Naipaul is a great fiction writer and an even better journalist. His two travel books about the Islamic world “Among the Believers” and “Beyond Belief” were published before terrorism really ramped up, so they might come across as a bit low-key compared with the horrific truth we know today.
But Naipaul showed how Islam has inflicted cultural confusion upon non-Arab countries like Pakistan and Iran. Naipaul argues that Islam is a distinctly Arab religion that can best be understood in the context of the desert culture from which it originated.
Islam is simply a bad fit when grafted onto other, frankly more civilized, cultures — particularly Persia/Iran. These societies have paid a heavy price to become, if you will, pseudo-Arabs.
My least favorite recent Nobel laureate was Elfriede Jelinek, a radical feminist from Austria. Her work strikes me as simply the ravings of a madwoman.
It’s not just the prize for literature that is a joke. Even the process for science prizes is corrupt. If you’re not a member of their circle, you’re not going to get a prize.
