Scientists: Climate change made Hurricane Matthew stronger

You can't blame climate change for creating Hurricane Matthew. But two Florida scientists say you can blame a warmer world for making the storm get so strong so fast.

Hurricanes and tropical storms gain their power from absorbing the heat of warm water. That's why hurricane season runs from June to November, when the Atlantic Ocean, the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico are at their warmest.

This year, global temperature readings are setting new records every month, so that 2016 is on track to be the warmest year ever.

"Ocean temperatures are playing a big role in that," said David Zierden, Florida's state climatologist.

This summer, the waters around the Bahamas and off Florida's southeastern coast has been running at least 1 degree Celsius warmer than normal, he said.

Do you stay at Holiday Inn express? That was a fabulous explanation of the chaos theory of weather postulated by Von Mises. One ancillar5y addendum that he has to the famous postulate is that “it is a hoax”.

****He’s where he is for now*****

The coverage began with several reporters in different areas, I notice only 2 are now giving updates; Cantore and a woman ‘Jen’ in Georgia. You are likely correct that many of them & their crews are stuck and/or out of equipment.

I lived in Tybee Island and Hilton Head, which is why I am anxious about those places.

What was their excuse for the devasting hurricane that flattened Galveston in 1900?

LOL - aren’t these the same so-called ‘scientists’ who said the Arctic ice would be totally GONE by September 2016?

They did that with the first two snow threats last year.
When nothing happened, people got complacent.
Then the first ice storm in my area hit, roadcrews were unprepared and didn’t even bother heading out until there’d been multiple vehicle accidents.

I believe that all the volcanic eruptions have a part to play in it, and not man.

As much as a signed piece of paper cannot stop a hurricane, neither can the same signed paper have ANY effect on stopping any volcano, anywhere, any time.

Fine, it still means climate change is responsible for the dramatic drop of hurricanes since 2005, too.

Fail.

In case they didn’t notice, it happens to be October.

Hurricanes late in the year tend to be stronger because the water is warmer.
