I have pistol grips, with a 590A1 safety, and it's never bothered me in the least.

BTW, the only true "safety" for a Mossberg is in keeping any & all rounds out of the firing chamber. Once you pull [or push] a load into the chamber, the Mossberg is a friggin cannon, waiting to destroy whatever it's pointed at, safety or not.

And if there's anything you care about, within a country mile of you and your Mossberg, then don't pull [or push] a round into the firing chamber in the first place.

PS: You get a Mossberg 590A1 [instead of a Remington or a Beretta or any of those other pretender guns] when you absolutely positively don't want to be bothered with worrying even an ounce about whether or not your gun's action can take the load of the hot rounds which you're about to fire from it.

So bring on the Hornady 00 buck & the Federal F131RS rifled slugs at 1600fps, and shoot them all day long.

Your shoulder will give out long before your Mossberg 590A1 ever calls it quits.

The Remington model 870 is probably the greatest pump ever made. It is even better than the Winchester models 97 and 12.

I taught skeet at the University of Southern Mississippi for two years. For those students who didn’t have their own guns the University supplied three Remington 870s. These guns were pretty old and I roughly calculated that they probably had fired a combined 400,000 rounds with no problems.

One of them finally began to sometimes fail to hold the next shell in the magazine. I had no idea how long it had been since they were cleaned. The school had no cleaning supplies so I finally brought some from home and gave them a good going over. The shell stop problems went away and they continued to keep firing as long as I was there.
