Tennessee is ground zero for ObamaCares nationwide implosion. Late last month the state insurance commissioner, Julie Mix McPeak, approved premium increases of up to 62% in a bid to save the exchange set up under the Affordable Care Act. I would characterize the exchange market in Tennessee as very near collapse, she said.
Then last week BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee announced it would leave three of the states largest exchange marketsNashville, Memphis and Knoxville. We have experienced losses approaching $500 million over the course of three years on ACA plans, the company said, which is unsustainable. As a result, more than 100,000 Tennesseans will be forced to seek out new coverage for 2017.
BlueCross is only the latest insurer to head for the exits. Community Health Alliance, the insurance co-op established under ObamaCare, is winding down due to financial failure, leaving 30,000 people without coverage. UnitedHealthcare said in April it is departing Tennessees exchange after significant losses. Thats another 41,000 people needing new plans.
All told, more than 60% of our states ObamaCare consumers will lose their coverage heading into 2017. When they go in search of a replacement plan, they will confront two unfortunate realities: a dearth of options and skyrocketing costs.

My wife and I both got dropped from our Medicare Advantage provider TODAY. They will not be renewing our plan.

I have been using the same tagline for over a year. Let’s stop with the term Obamacare and connect ALL Democrats to DemocratCare.

No sh-, Sherlock! But what I want to know is why a genius like you was allowed to invest stockholder money in supporting this stupid scheme. Anybody with a brain- check that - half a brain knew what the meltdown would look like. Well, it has arrived and you look like an idiot for essentially agreeing to lose $500 million. Doofus!
My company does business with petroleum services companys. Trust me, it’s not happening. And as you indicated, the ramp-up time is too long to affect this election cycle, one way or the other. The cake has been baked.
I don’t think that the Fabian socialists purposefully set out to destroy healthcare. I think they saw that pot of cash representing 1/6 of our economy and they wanted to get their greedy little hands into it.
Yes, single payer was always the goal.
Obamacare IS Obama’s legacy.
I remember when they were voting on it. The press was desperate to see it pass because everything he’d attempted before it had failed. This was his opportunity to get congress on his side and win one.
He did. Without a single republican vote.
Obama and the democrat party absolutely own this. It could affect the election more than just about anything else. And it will be the biggest defining attribute of the Obama presidency.
History will not be kind to this man.
I agree. And the refusal of healthy old people like me to participate is costing them. That 8% rule was necessary to get it passed and it killed ‘em.
I’m convinced we will end up (if we are “lucky”) a 2-tiered system as Australia and the UK has.
The fact is that at this point, we won’t be going back to a fully private system. Medicare and Medicaid make it impossible.
The best outcome now, in my opinion is to have a public/private system where the private system no longer funds the public/government side.
If you want to pay, you should get better care. If you don’t want to pay, you should get whatever you get from the public side.
Think UK. If you smoke or are fat, no surgery for you in the public system on the public dime.
If you pay for private care, it’s as good as you can get.
That’s our future medical system. If you don’t like it, get rid of ALL socialism, including medicare and Medicaid.
Deport the illegal alien invaders.
Better than what we have and the only real way to do away with ObamaCare for the time being. Some things are so broken that staging them back through several of their permutations is the only logical/viable way to unravel them.
Once again, my all-time favorite Obama lie-listen to him promise that employers’ premiums paid for their employees would go down by “as much as 3,000 percent” under Obamacare...

Not only is he a liar, he doesn’t understand simple math.
“I dont want to hear about that safety net”
Then you have to get rid of Medicare/Medicaid. Those have destroyed private medicine because they “demand” that a robust private medical system fund the fractional reimbursement that is Medicare/Medicaid.
A private system cannot exist that has an unlimited obligation to fund unlimited free public healthcare.
I’m all for abandoning Medicare and medicaid. I’ll probably be receiving SS in three years (I’ll be 66 then) and it infuriates me that I am REQUIRED to be on medicare. I have NO health insurance now and don’t need it. The Lord provides.
SS is another separate issue for another thread.
Medicare/Medicaid will have be rolled into a public system.
That public system will have to live within a fixed budget. That will mean rationing, lines, and limits on the “free” stuff you can get. In the UK they decided to exclude people from all but trivial care on the basis of weight and smoking status. So, for instance, if you are fat, and want a hip replacement or knee replacement you won’t be getting it on Medicare.
So, for instance, if you are fat, and want a hip replacement or knee replacement you wont be getting it on Medicare.
