It wasnt until New York-based photographer Jo Imperio was photographing her father that she realized how much of her ongoing project was inspired by their relationship.
Imperio didnt meet her dad, who moved away shortly after she was born, until she was 7 years old. Before that, I only knew him through photographs, she wrote in an email to The Huffington Post.

The very first picture looked like an illegal being held on the ground at gunpoint after being apprehended. The rest did nothing to dispel that general ‘feeling’ about her photos. The poses are awkward, the models look like “male models” & all the negatives associated with such types - not manly in the way that I think of manly men. If she wanted ‘strong’, she’s starting with the wrong males ... they look like fugitives from the Border Patrol or as if somebody stole their Starbucks.
I am fed up with the metrosexuals who have been in control for way too long........
Holding Out for a Hero
Bonnie Tyler
Where have all the good men gone
And where are all the gods?
Where’s the streetwise Hercules to fight the rising odds?
Isn’t there a white knight upon a fiery steed?
Late at night I toss and I turn
And I dream of what I need
I need a hero
I’m holding out for a hero ‘til the end of the night
He’s gotta be strong
And he’s gotta be fast
And he’s gotta be fresh from the fight
I need a hero
I’m holding out for a hero ‘til the morning light
He’s gotta be sure
And it’s gotta be soon
And he’s gotta be larger than life!
Larger than life
Somewhere after midnight
In my wildest fantasy
Somewhere just beyond my reach
There’s someone reaching back for me
Racing on the thunder and rising with the heat
It’s gonna take a superman to sweep me off my feet
I need a hero
I’m holding out for a hero ‘til the end of the night
He’s gotta be strong
And he’s gotta be fast
And he’s gotta be fresh from the fight
I need a hero
I’m holding out for a hero ‘til the morning light
He’s gotta be sure
And it’s gotta be soon
And he’s gotta be larger than life
I need a hero
I’m holding out for a hero ‘til the end of the night
Up where the mountains meet the heavens above
Out where the lightning splits the sea
I could swear there is someone, somewhere
Watching me
Through the wind, and the chill, and the rain
And the storm, and the flood
I can feel his approach like a fire in my blood
I need a hero
I’m holding out for a hero ‘til the end of the night
He’s gotta be strong and he’s gotta be fast
And he’s gotta be fresh from the fight
I need a hero
I’m holding out for a hero ‘til the morning light
He’s gotta be sure
And it’s gotta be soon
And he’s gotta be larger than life
I need a hero
I’m holding out for a hero ‘til the end of the night
He’s gotta be strong and he’s gotta be fast
And he’s gotta be fresh from the fight
I need a hero
I’m holding out for a hero ‘til the morning light
He’s gotta be sure
And it’s gotta be soon
And he’s gotta be larger than life
I need a hero
I’m holding out for a hero ‘til the end of the night

No “toxic masculinity” there. Just what we need. We should probably ban guys like that from volunteering for service in the military. We don’t need another Bergdahl.
I had to look and it’s just as you figured. A bunch of girly men.
The more vulnerable a man is the stronger he is! Typical leftist Orwellian doublespeak.
They look like zombies. That third photo of the guy laying in poison ivy will really be one to remember for him.
Gaydar is at 9.5
Sorry —those aren’t men ==those are skinny, sickly, girly-men. They sure don’t look like any men I’d be attracted to -—
beat me too it ! LOL !
Oh I looked. And now I’m hacking up a lung from laughing so hard! What fools.
Those are all the guys I turned down in college. :-)
Lmao. And these killers are supposed to do what when a mad mo head chopper comes a calling? Queef?
Ewww. Who thinks a bunch of gay boys, shirtless and stoned, in the woods are the equivalent of strong men being vulnerable?
They all look pretty faggoty to me.
Hahahaha. You're deplorable woman! Congrats.
Phew, thank you. I ran away screaming at the first pic but it still had bad effects.
