I had a neighbor whose uncle wrote
Thank God & Greyhound You're Gone.

No, no, no, no, no.
It’s “and Pffft you WAS gone.”

Love Hee Haw. A few weeks back The Sons of the Pioneers were on a rerun and performed “Cool Water”. It was fine.

Now there’s a blast from the past.

I almost broke out into lyrics but I’d hate to spoil it. :)

We met at a beach
For the young and the beautiful
And you were the prettiest one by far
A whirlwind romance
And a wedding that was magical
Until Ma found you and Pa
doing something behind the bar!

(Mom turns around)

Where, oh where, are you tonight?
Why did you leave me here all alone?
I searched the world over and I thought I’d found true love!
But you met another and “pbthbt” you were gone....

When Archie Campbell came to our county fair in the mid 1970s I came up on stage with him twice (afternoon and evening) to sing that song with him! I guess I raised my hand fast enough. He gave me an autographed photo for my trouble.

I didn't quite get his genius for storytelling until long after. He was good.
