Texas reportedly will fire Charlie Strong after the season

Texas isn’t firing Charlie Strong, but it certainly isn’t doing him any favors, according to a report that indicates he is “very close” to losing his job at the end of the season after consecutive losses to Cal and Oklahoma State.

A high-ranking official described Strong’s status to SI’s Pete Thamel, adding that his job is safe until the end of the season. Strong is in his third season as coach of the 2-2 Longhorns, who wrap up their schedule Nov. 25.

That’s a good question. Big 12 teams are giving up an average of 29 points per game. Texas is giving up 38.

If he finishes against Tech and Auburn like he did against Tennessee, he might be a one season coach. Stupid penalties = poor coaching.

Everytime I suggest Mac isn’t the guy. They say, “But....but....he won the SEC East last year”. To which I retort. Louisiana Tech could have won the SEC East last year, as terrible as it was. And besides, at the end of the season, Tennessee was much better than we were.

Texas made a mistake ? I hardly think so.. ESPN made a mistake... And so did the Big 12. Texas BEGGED the Big 12 to put together a conference network... Nothing happened. Texas pleaded with A&M, Tech, and Baylor to join a “State of Texas” network... They all said “No way”.

So, along came ESPN offering Big money, and WE made the mistake in saying ‘”sure!”?

I don’t see that logic.

I do see poor play, and coaching since he LHN started. Not sure why?

Yeah, the SEC East was a joke, and they were lucky to win it, some of those games, and how they won... probably the worst SEC “champion” ever. That said, that team yearly gets tons of talent (as do the other big teams in FL), so that alone should carry them some.

It’s only his third season for Chrisake! The program was in shambles when Mack Brown left. Damn! The man needs a chance!

I find it amazing that there were guys who played for Chump at UF that didn’t even start, that are now playing in the NFL. There was talent to do much better than we have. And I see the same thing happening now with McElwain.

You can’t look at won-loss record. But more is progress being made.

What I find disconcerting is that Strong is a good defensive coach, but defense is the problem at UT.

And Strong was one of the guys that I wanted to come to UF after Urban Meyer left.

Hah, as a long suffering Canes fan, we noticed that too about our players. There is no reaon UF and UM shouldn't be at least as good as FSU.... was..

ESPN tried to strong arm TT and OkSt into playing games on the Longhorn network (not a B12 network.) The good thing about the Longhorn Network is that it helped push TAMU to greener, if tougher, pastures.

Of course UT got blocked from reaching one of its primary goals - featuring high school football on the channel to get a recruiting advantage.

I am a UT ex. For what it’s worth, I can tell you without doubt the big money boys and girls (alums) are not happy. Strong was a gamble that was mostly not well received. Mac Brown was done for a number of reasons, recruiting being one of them. The natives are getting restless and want Strong gone.
