An Air Force reconnaissance plane recently measured a peak SFMR wind of 143 kt and then 138 kt during this mission's eye penetrations. Furthermore, the satellite presentation has improved considerably with a distinct eye surrounded by a ring of very deep convection. The raw objective T-numbers from UW-CIMSS have been above 7.0 since 2100 UTC. On this basis, the initial intensity has been increased to 140 kt, making Matthew a Category 5 on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. This is the first Category 5 hurricane in the Atlantic basin since Hurricane Felix in 2007.

They're saying if in Florida to begin preparations...though shouldn't hit there, if it's going to, till Tues. or Wed. Better safe than sorry I say.
But then Here's the latest.....
Not surprised...some people just don’t think things will happen and then it does.....some are just jerks and think they can tough it out....
Cone shifted east in 5 PM update, includes Miami and Ft. Lauderdale.
Strangest storm I have ever seen, no telling where it will go.
To be honest, I would love to see a hurricane come on shore, unfortunately I also realize I’m on my own.
It took us weeks to get the Gulf back in order in 85’.
Get that room booked tonight.
..”Cone shifted east in 5 PM update, includes Miami and Ft. Lauderdale......Strangest storm I have ever seen, no telling where it will go.”....
I think that’s also why they’re saying nothings off the table yet on what this storm will do or go.
Well I hope I’m far enough inland not to be concerned....family get together up in God’s Elk country!
Thanks for posting.
I got a ping from my step-daughter’s FB page about 4 days ago that said she was on her way to Santo Domingo, D.R., for her son’s wedding. .....He’s marrying a school teacher who is mother of their four year old son. .....I’m worrying, because I don’t know her current email address. Hope they’re safe.
Matthew is the 5th Category 5 hurricane in Atlantic on record during October..... Other 4 are (Cuba-1924, Hattie-1961, Mitch-1998, Wilma-2005)
Looks like the fact it’s risen to a CAt 5 so fast and rare for Oct. in the Atlantic....makes for an interesting watch.
I marched to Alley Hall on a Friday to escape Elena and was released when it headed for Tampa.
I flew home and that damn thing turned and hit Biloxi. I was the second plane in to see the destruction.
It took two weeks to get the town in order and another two weeks to get the base in order. Thank You to those in the USN that know what I’m talking about.

Your Elk should be OK! :^)
We are right in the middle of Hurricane season.
: (
Oh man! I would have hated seeing that.....still leaves people speechless even now I think....was so terrible then.
Yes, the Elk will be fine...rutt season so we are hoping to see plenty....amazing creatures.....hopefully will see 100’s in a group as others have seen....
I knew we were in it but not how far in.....I have a family .ember that watches weather daily.....lives In Florida so it’s just smart doing so down there.....though they’re accustomed to storms and always prepared....you just never know if they’re going to hit or not....
I landed in Gulfport and it was hell. The small craft were flipped on their wings and the tornadoes ripped thru the trees. All lamps were down and windows blown out.
I had a special escort to the base. It wasn’t good.
