Microsoft has merged three of its business units to create a new artificial intelligence division, while teaming with four of the world's biggest tech giants to promote public understanding of AI.

The artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning research industry is estimated to grow to US$70 billion by 2020 from just US$8.2 billion in 2013, according to a Bank of America report that cited IDC research.

Microsoft is hoping to tap into that pool by combining its Bing and Cortana product groups with its Research division to create the new AI and Research Group. The business unit will be Microsoft's fourth engineering unit alongside Windows, Office, and Azure.

Anything Microsoft does is a Bad thing.
I was in a Security and Privacy workshop with THE head of Microsoft privacy.
He boasted that Microsoft’s Cortana is used by hospitals and wellness lines to record and rate the emotional state of callers in order to assess “risk”.
Dartmouth Hitchcock hospital pioneered this a year ago.
Look it up.
Watch what you say and how you say it in order to avoid being labeled as being agitated and being an anger management threat, even of dealing with an outrageous bill or staff incompetence.

Right, actually, it really was the concept of Skynet awakening in our time like the Terminator movies portrayed that first came to mind when I first learned of this latest maneuver of u-squelch the ‘doze dealers.

Although for many years I was convinced that the Appleubernutz were the ones to watch out for... *grin*
