I would have guessed government would be the largest in most states.

Isn’t Koch also linked to Home Depot?

I searched briefly but was unable to find any connection between Koch and Home Depot. Both are yuuuge, yet surprisingly, their businesses don’t have much interaction.

Some can’t be understood without a legend or list. What the hell is Maryland’s claim to fame? Some futuristic star logo. Means nothing to me. Any idea?

Maryland is owned by Star Trek?

WTF is that?

Are those companies headquartered in each state?

I don’t see any duplication. I’m thinking those are where the headquarters are, and those are based on national revene measures?

GE set to get up to $145 million in incentives to leave Fairfield, Conn., for Boston, its home since 1974

So this map is suspect, perhaps not so up to date..

How about rankings by the number of employees and by total employee compensation? And provided as to company, group, and business sector, with government employment for comparison? That permits one to get an idea of relative political importance and how the employees tilt. In many areas, the largest employer — and always a large employer — is the local school system.
