Crazy Evangelicals like me differ from Roman Catholics on some aspects of the theory, obviously.
But ooh yes, we need to be careful with high-voltage spiritual stuff like this, to know what we really mean.
We might be able to quibble about what the “spirit of a person” means in the context of a demonic oppression or possession. This could be legion in some cases. But when we say demon we should mean demon. I wouldn’t be at all surprised to find that some or all of them get all buzzed up on the sin of those that they haunt and work to stir up the sin of. A sensitive person (T&R might be such a person) could then in turn pick up on that buzz. But the point, I would urge as a Christian, is not to be a connoisseur of the buzz, but to bid its carrier to hit the road with all dispatch. Get out of here, Satan. The promises of scripture help, e.g. resist the devil and he will flee from you. There’s no need to argue with Satan about that; just do it and it works.

I very much agree with what you wrote.
My experience is that very few of the spirits stuck in this realm without a physical body are actually demonic. Most are merely spirits that have left their physical bodies, were caught up in earthly attachments or fear, guilt or anger, and could not cross over to Heaven. The demonic spirits take advantage of these stuck spirits and recruit them into their minions. However, their is a hierarchy or command structure that will always lead to a demonic at the top.
Frequently, I have encountered people who have spirit attachments which cripple or disable them. When these spirits are removed, the person is instantly healed. It is permanent as long as the wound in the soul that created the opening is healed so that a spirit can not re-enter.
I wouldn’t expect you to believe me, but the attached spirit frequently takes over the hosts voice and talks directly to me. They choose to hide and remain silent so you much command them to answer. I’ve asked simple questions to a person such as, “If that pain in your shoulder could speak, what would it say?” And a response is shouted at me, “Get out of here.” My response is “Who said that?” and I’ve had male attached spirits answer me in a male voice through a woman’s body vocals.
My first such encounter was about 25 years ago and the attached spirit told me his name, address, phone number, wife’s name, children’s names and went on to add where the auto accident happened that took his life. He said that he followed his body in the ambulance into the emergency room where he entered and attached to an ER nurse who was vulnerable.
After an apology from him to her for the harm he had caused, some forgiveness work and some redemption work, there was a flash of Light as he crossed over to heaven and she was instantly healed.
