(CBS) — Chicago Police are investigating the stabbing death of a 28-year-old in the West Garfield Park neighborhood – a victim officially listed as male but who friends say was a trans woman.

“I really want justice for my friend. That’s really it,” says Jaliyah.

Jaliyah says she knew the trans woman who was murdered and was her friend for seven years.

Police say the victim — a trans woman — was stabbed in the neck, and suffered multiple stab wounds throughout the body.

The victim's friend Jaliyah, also a trans woman, says she believes her friend was killed by a trans woman.

"About three days ago, she got into it with another trans woman outside, on Madison. And the other trans she got into it with pulled out a knife and said "I'm gonna stab you, I'm gonna get you killed, stuff like that."

"Then now three days later, she comes stand up she's been cut by the throat."

Jaliyah says she has known other trans women who have been murdered, victims of hate crimes, but in this case she said the killer may have been one of their own.
