I watched the show this morning on the DVR and had a few observations.
1. Another poster noted that Kirkland didn’t know what a designated survivor was but that took place BEFORE he was sent to the office where he sat out the SOTU. The show also made clear that Kirkland was kept “out of the loop” on important things. So it made sense.
2. I can’t believe the Capitol would be attacked, everyone killed, and the first place the new President would be taken would be the next logical target? Seems to me they would have done like they did with Bush after 9/11 and put him on Air Force One surrounded by fighters and on its way to a secure location...anywhere but the White House!
3. The piece of a dud bomb they found was said to be a Russian landmine that was commonly used by Muslims for bombs. The predicatble plot twist will be when it’s revealed that the dud was deliberate so there would be ‘evidence’ pointing at the Muslims...and we’ll all get a morality lesson about not blaming the poor Muslims for everything.
4. The head general is a cartoon character and I guess he’s Hollywood’s argument of why all the straight white guys in the military need to be replaced with lesbians or homosexuals.
5. Where’s someone from the Defense Department? CIA? Seems to me a new President in a crisis would have more resources around him but I guess ABC didn’t have the budget for that.
6. The drug dealing son will be a predictable political liability and he seriously reminds me of the drug addicted son on Fear The Walking Dead. The little girl is cute and someone will try to kill or kidnap her. Kirkland will be accused of an affair with his aide. <-— all too easy to predict.
I might watch the next episode but so far I’m not too impressed. The timing of the show and the memes they’re pushing makes it all sound like a sly advertisement for the Wise Democrats. Just in time for the election.
Uh-huh.
Kirkman is an Independent. I read a few articles where Kiefer suggested that to avoid all the political baggage. I enjoyed the premiere. Hopefully it won’t be too biased. I like that the President is a family man. You don’t see too much of that on TV anymore.
I didn't see it as that way. I did see it as a partial exploration of how young men do become homosexual.
Cold distant father, the search for a male role model, fell into the hands of sexual predator.
If the girl's father had given him a fatherly relationship rather then a sexual one the boy probably would have ended up marrying the daughter and having a happy life.
What channel?
ME too.
Am getting a sick feeling this might be a lib president.
Any thought.
Yes, I believe you are right. But the show is great!
My gut is that it will turn out to be a domestic threat.
Last weeks show was pretty good. This weeks show was—get this all about Islamophobia-—Oh noes!!!!
The entire government blown up. and the first priority is Islamophobia
I’m giving the show one more episode. But if it stays a vehicle for retarded liberal propaganda, I’m out.
Kiefer may have said in an interview that Kirkman is an independent and he may still be but so far in the show there’s been no indication he’s anything but a democrat, as is his previous COS and the entire remaining White House staff who serve him and seem to be under that impression. If anything I’d say being a non-politician he may be a soft democrat, independent minded but still one of them. Independents in the cabinet or token opposition party members are never the designated survivor.
Anyway, I was disappointed but not surprised by episode 2’s CARTOONISH racism storyline (affecting poor main cast member Kal Penn, just cause of his dark skin!) culminating in a cop idiotically beating a defenseless prisoner who’s hands were in a zip tie to DEATH in a move any cop would know would get them sent to prison and it’s ridiculous portrayal of an obviously GOP Michigan Governor who they had behaving like a 2 year old.
I like the subject matter of this show and I like Kiefer as an actor so I don’t wanna bail so soon but that storyline was a disgrace.
It’s clear that the Whatevertheyrecalled terrorist gang are indeed not the culprits of the bombing and whoever did it just wanted people to think it was them. That’s ok in an of itself. But if they make the culprits some cabal of evil businessman who want a war for profit or some White pride gang or something...that would really piss me off.
I switched it off when the defendant identified himself as a sodomite. I will not switch it on again. I like the concept. I will not watch sodomite propaganda.
I just had a thought, maybe it wouldn’t apply in the case of this show with the President dead and the Tyler precedent making the Acting P the P but say the President was in a coma and the VP was dead along with the rest of the line of succession and you had the Secretary of Dog Catching as an acting President, if he appointed a new VP, would the new VP then supersede him as acting President? Would a newly elected House Speaker supercede him also?
As I said, I expect the “villains” will be White Christian right-wingers. Hollyweird sees no other as villains.
What he said... He's a pirate and wouldn't steer us wrong--
Hey, Imp-- It's Hollywood... what else do you expect?
I don’t think there’s any show on today that isn’t pro-sodomite. I’m well past fed up paying tribute to the High Holy Anus and the Sainted Rectal Prolapse.
My big HDTV makes a dandy computer monitor. Maybe I should disconnect the antenna feed. It’s 99% crap.
The plane crashing into the Capital building happens at the tail end of Debt of Honor, and Executive Orders is about the new President Ryan dealing with a biological warfare attack from Iran.
Sounds like Battlestar Galactica. No Cylons?
With the General involved and pushing for a Middle East war. Wouldn’t that be a script right out of Hollywood.
Yes, it’ has some odd things going on, no doubt I like the pace of the show and Keifer is very ‘Jack’ like in the way he talks and overall personality. I really loved 24. So, I find it engaging and am enjoying the show.
I finished reading Debt of Honor two days before 9-11. Needless to say, freaking out doesn't quite cover how I felt ON 9-11 watching it all happening in real life.
