This is a rural area, so we do not have public-funded services like trash, sewage or water-even our electricity provider is a co-op-and there are no curbs...
All trash services are private, recycling is optional and does not cost extra-you chose the service you want and pay, or you take your stuff to the county dump and recycling station-either is cheaper than in a city. You provide your own recycle containers and label them-no tax money pays for it-you are responsible for your own. I use bags and paper labels, because they are cheap-I learned to recycle as a kid living on the family ranch-it was known as don’t waste anything that can be used some other way then-early recycling out of common sense, not a liberal scam funded by taxpayers...
If I lived in a city, I wouldn’t bother with the bins either-my tax dollars NOT at work...
Recycling stuff to re-use it yourself makes sense or if you can get rid of it for free. We do put out a bin but only because it is free pickup and we get charged per bag for trash.
The net processing cost for recyclables outweighs the cost to landfill it and for most of the items, there’s little legitimate use for.
Personally I favor incinerators that burn trash and create energy. That heat can be harnessed and used to power turbine generators to make electricity. At worst it’s a wash.
