Does anyone remember the story behind this picture
I first saw this picture posted on Free Republic, that much I remember. I don't remember if the person who posted it was also the one who took it. What I do remember is that the eagle was originally facing to the Left and someone asked for a repost with it facing to the Right -- not the simplest thing to do in those days.
The site I'm linking to apparently posted it in 2001, and I joined FR in 1998 (the second time -- I was here a few months before that). So this picture dates from 1998 - 2001 or so. Any long time FReepers remember it?
I think it was posted in the Canteen originally. And I believe that that is Alaska in the background. Other than that, I don't remember the circumstances of it.
Looks like a boat in Alaska. Quite common here to see eagles perched on masts, booms, pilings or any vantage point near the water.
Love this pic. I've posted it elsewhere since then. It will pop up on my facebook homepage a couple times per year.
Civil war unit from Wisconsin had an eagle as their mascot called Old Abe.
Believe that was the 6th Wisconsin which was part of the IRON BRIGADE. The brigade was the first federal infantry to get into the fight alongside Buford’s cavalry at Gettysburg.
