The iconic early 1970's British documentary on World War II narrated by Sir Laurence Olivier with one of the most haunting opening musical scores I've ever heard.

I remember when it originally aired and I think again in syndication at night (maybe before 3 Stooges, Honeymooners, or Benny Hill, all late night fodder in syndication in the late 70s early 80s). I think I recall the syndication run because I’d catch the end of episodes waiting for what was scheduled afterwards.

I bought this on DVD (the whole set) but still haven’t gotten around to watching it. I do plan to build up my knowledge of WWII (it is all before my time) in my lifetime but so far I’ve only read a couple of books and bought a few more.

I heard that Victory At Sea was well done and have that series on DVD as well.

“This series and Victory at Sea are a couple of my faves.”

Me too, I have both on DVD.

Same. The WAW DVD set includes A LOT of stuff not included in the originally aired series. WELL worth every penny and more.

I was 9 or 10 and enjoyed it!

It’s available on DVD. I’ve tried it on some of my younger relatives with variable success.
