The Birmingham Police Department is facing backlash over a picture that went viral on social media.
The picture shows Birmingham police officer Michelle Burton holding a baby whose parents had just overdosed. The father died and the mother is still in the hospital. Officer Burton ended up staying with the baby and her three siblings for more than six hours following the incident.
Burton's husband posted the picture on social media last week praising his wife.
However, family members of the baby shown in the picture were not happy.
Mary Purnell Adalane, the aunt of the baby in the picture, spoke out at the Birmingham City Council meeting Tuesday. She said she and other family members felt like the baby, who's just shy of two months old, was "exploited."

It’s already happening. One university in California has recently instituted “voluntarily segregated” co-ed housing so the minorities can avoid exposure to all those “invented out of thin air” micro-aggressions.
Instead of playing on FB, Auntie should be playing with the baby and keeping it safe. She should have been concerned with the baby long before this.
Did the husband name names?
I don’t do facebook.
It’s best to stay away from social media, period.
What about the latest incedent with Carlos Danger sexting pictures of himself to a sex partner with his son in the bed with him and him in his under wear?!!?
Some L/E department somewhere should have kicked in his door and drug him off to jail.
So by looking at this baby’s picture at 2 months old someone will be able to identify her at 4. Years old?
The child was held and cared for, something her human trash, drug addicted criminal ‘parents’ should have been doing instead of seeking a chemical high. How much money did they put into their veins instead of spending it on their children? Should the cop have left the baby next to the addicts like the garbage THEY are? Exploited! Exploited is what babies like that are for a government check! Whoever gets custody of her and her siblings get the support money too- THAT is exploitation!!
Yep. But he'd better be watching his back. If he makes Huma mad enough, Shrillery might make him disappear.
Indeed!
Doubtful. Maybe family members. Here is what was posted ...
"Last night, my wife Michelle Burton told me she would be late getting off work because of a call she was on where the parents of 4 small children had both overdosed. Michelle said the father was dead and the mother was critical. She spent the rest of the night taking care of these babies. She got home at 4 this morning. I've never seen her more beautiful than in this picture. What an incredible woman."
A few less details and this probably wouldn't be an issue.
It is only an issue now because the family wants something to complain about. They should be sending thank you notes to the woman who cared for the children for 6 hours.
If this had happened to my family I would be sending her flowers.
But, but...I thought black lives mattered...?
"So the sister cares more about a picture then her brother or sister overdosing?"
Well it's not like they can sue the dope dealer so who can they possibly wring a buck out of?
Right on!
Translation: give us money!
I want people like this to be publicly shamed. So your brother or sister was/is a heroin addict? You should have dealt with that.
When my brother was a heroin addict, I dealt with it.
When my sister in law was (is) a meth addict, I dealt with that too.
I felt shame. It motivated me.
Ooooo, we fitting to get paid.
That baby does not give a rip about racial identity politics, but they just got to exploit it.
So, how do you think all the officers of that agency feel after this gutpunch? If you said, “why bother?” then you are correct and this is being manifested in less and less people wanting to be police officers.
Nice job Obama and BLM.
Funny you should mention that. Boy, 4, Found in SUV With Adults Who Allegedly Passed Out on Heroin; Ohio Police Post Pics
Yes, I was a little worried when I first saw the photo that they showed the baby’s face. Should have used a different angle. Not in any way agreeing with the outraged family members.
.
The baby was exploited.....
By her family!
