Hey Guys,
I've been checking out some military fly-overs this week in eastern Pennsylvania and today a noteworthy flight took place :
I had 5 fighter jets, 3 up front 2 in the back. External tanks, flying about 3000-5000 feet. Throughout the week I've spotted one of these flights everyday.
I got a tail marking on one, but it appears they are all different. Can someone help me with a tail ID ?
It was yellow on the bottom, Orange on top. It was slanted at less than a 45 degree angle, sloping towards the back.
Does this marking ring a bell ?
It’s First Fighter Wing not squadron.
Not quite enough information. The tail code would tell the tale. Pun intended. Most likely Guard or Reserve birds in that area.
What kind of planes were they?
“PA Air National Guard fly A 10s, do you know what they look like?”
Straight wings, two tails, two huge hi-bypass turbo fans, gear that doesn’t fully retract, nice big canopy, BIG gun, lots of hard-points. . .ugly. . .oh. . .wait. . .that wasn’t what you were asking?
;-)
Hello on the bottom and Red on top
Sounds like Israeli Air Force.
But surely not in PA
They claimed to be off-target.
Hulka,
Thanks for the links. I’ll start looking.
These were likely F16. I only saw a single rudder. It was modern, but not so close that I could observe actual markings (base/serial)
I’d love to know what these guys are up to. I can find lots of info on tankers and Hercules / C17 / C5 flight patterns and missions - of which there have been quite a few over the NE.
During a President Trump rally in CT 2 were circling CT. Just odd stuff like that.
We used to have A-10s at the local Nat Guard airfield in Western Mass. I loved watching those planes just kind of float around.
Now we have F15s. Loud and fast.
I miss the hogs.
Couldn't say whether it was alone or not.
Ugly? The A-10 is a beautiful beast, 'specially when she burps.
These are aircraft belonging to the EPA Air Arm, looking for lawn-sprinkling violators.
Pilots gotta fly to maintain proficiency, especially if they are
Air Guard and only get a limited amount of hours per year.
Hazleton Pa.?
F4 Phantom. The Flying Piano.
This is most likely the case, or they are being delivered somewhere. I was actually looking for Canadian AF tail markings online.
I just think it’s strange. I’ve seen a string of them this week. The ones I see are flying solo - but formations always make me look twice.
I miss flying the Hog
I was stationed at Hill AFB in Utah and their F-16s had HL on the tail in big letters. Funny, but I see those tails in lots of stock file photos.
