You just cannot conceive that Apple customer's, over 800,000,000 of them who have purchased over 1.3 BILLION Apple iOS products over the last NINE YEARS, really did so because they made a sane, rational decision, can you????

Amd you can't conceive that for every iPhone sold, there are 7 or 8 Android phones. For every OSX computer sold, there are 15-20 Windows PCs sold. That in terms of market share, iOS and OSX are bit players. You foam at the mouth and rant about "feature phone this" and "limited smart that" and in the end - you end up saying nothing other than the stamping of feet and the tantrum of a child.

BUT, because Apple is the media darling and has such a vocal, jihad-like cult following, they can influence short-term decisions by companies that will negatively impact ALL of us (witness Samsung's dalliance with removal of microSD cards - they're back, after a 2 year hiatus unfortunately led by Apple's insistence they are not needed). This vocal minority unfortunately champions bad ideas that are not vetted for the world as a whole, and too many take it as gospel because of the shouting "might makes right" attitude of few.

The removal of the 3.5mm jack is viewed by the public-at-large as overwhelmingly a bad thing. If Apple's dumb decision has an impact on other phones - it's bad overall. But hey, Apple invented nothing, they lag here badly, and now that they did it, it's courageous and innovative!

But, like smug little Appcolytes, you don't give a damn about the technology world as a whole, as long as you get your Shiny New iThing that you can play with. Screw the rest - you're the best!

Bye bye!

PS: so when can we see your missives about how stupid Apple is for doing a phone with > 326 PPI screens? I mean, you've been adamant that more than 1 arc-minute of resolution at 18" (about 325 PPI) is stupid and wasteful - and now the iPhone 7 Plus has 401 PPI. So which is it - was Apple wrong in the past, and you need more resolution, or is the new design wasteful and a sign that Apple is just playing numbers games?

No, Dan, I can conceive of that, but, as an ECONOMIST I fully understand the MARKET SEGMENT MIX which YOU DO NOT, and despite my trying to EDUCATE you about such discriminating segment factors as market mixes meaning something very important about calling ALL phones manufactured using Android as a driving OS "smartphones" does not mean they really ARE "smartphones" you continually ignore that simple, and easily understood FACT. It is not any thing like stamping of feet or a tantrum of a child. YOU are the one who refuses to accept the reality of the world, a very childlike outlook, because YOU want the world to be the way you want it to be. I accept it for what it is.

YOU refuse to accept that in business, PROFIT share is far more important for the success of a business than MARKET share. When ONE company is earning 94% of ALL of the profits in the ENTIRE INDUSTRY with only 15% of the Market share by competing on quality and ecosystem, while all of the others are competing purely on price in a race to the lowest price in a commodity market and posting LOSSES, the one with all the profits is doing something right and the others are doing something wrong. Apple is rewarded with hundreds of billions of dollars of profits while the others are rewarded with what? At worst, bankruptcy.

There you go again claiming Apple is successful because of "media" and a "Jihad-like Cult." PROVING MY POING that you simply cannot conceive that Apple sells high quality products that work and that over 800,000,000, that's 800 MILLION individual buyers have individually CHOSEN to step up with their hard earned money to buy an excellent product and ecosystem that all works together far better than the KLUDGES that anyone else offers.

Somehow YOU, in your delusion, blame Apple for the misguided efforts of Samsung in attempting to duplicate Apple's success without understanding at ALL how it is accomplished by picking and choosing small pieces of the Apple model. All that just demonstrates again that neither YOU nor SAMSUNG understand at all that it is not any one piece of the ecosystem that Apple has built over the years that makes it and its products successful, but the overall deliberate synching and interaction of between ALL of Apple's products that create the ecosystem that makes Apple successful.

For example, MicroSD cards are NOT needed. The memory they provide is not integrated system memory in the way the memory on Apple devices is fully available to the processor. Removable memory is merely treated as external storage, far slower and it has to be handled in a different way. Removable media of any kind on a mobile device is a security hole that is impossible to block. Data stored on it can be stolen by the simple means of stealing the card, borrowing it and duplicating it and replacing it, etc. Linking mobile memory to a monolithic Cloud storage system, shared between all of a users devices, is a far better approach than trying to juggle multiple memory cards. Another choice available to iPhone users is to tie directly into the user's home Mac for storage.

Given all that, it is not Apple's fault that SAMSUNG, the copyist, tried again to copy Apple's successful products that have been CONSISTENTLY, aside from occasional single month Samsung flagship product introduction blips, the number one and number two BEST SELLING cellular phones in the world for the last nine years! but even during your claimed two year hiatus of no MicroSD cards, Samsung did indeed offer models with MicroSDs in some of its models, just not its flagship models.

You don't know at all how the "public-at-large" views the removal of the 3.5mm jack. That's an assumption on your part and is another logical fallacy called appeal to popularity. Frankly, neither do I, but we will find out when Apple's newest iPhone goes on pre-sale Friday and when the public finally gets the sans jack iPhone in its hands. Until then, no one knows. You think YOUR opinion drives the world.

Now, again, you push the claim that "Apple invented nothing" about a company that spends $9 BILLION on research and development every year and files for 4000 patents. You spout that line because you've heard it repeated. It isn't true. That's a lie spread mostly by Samsung due to the lawsuits against it for infringing those patents.

YOU love to spout every negative myth about Apple you run across, don't you? That is a sure sign of an Anti-Apple Hate Brigade Member. You are a member in good standing, I am certain.

Where did you read that? Another one of your Anti-Apple sources? He's wrong.

y For once you seem to have understood my argument. . . however, YOUR snide claim is completely wrong about Apple now having 401 PPI in the new iPhones. The iPhone 7 and 7 Plus have the same 326 PPI as all of the previous Retina displays have had. It's the same Retina displays Apple has always had because it is unnecessary to go any farther on devices with these size screens which are looked at between 10" and 15" from the eye. Again, try doing some research before you again prove yourself to be a fool. It is something that is easily learned from Apple's spec sheet at Apple.com, the pundit press, or even the original article for this thread, yet you again go off half-cocked with mis-information.

"Size

The 4.7-inch iPhone 7 and 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus have the exact same size as their predecessors, no surprises there.

Screen

Apple stuck with 1334 x 750 resolution for the smaller iPhone and 1920 x 1080 for the phablet." — BGR
