Piers Morgan Asks 12-Year-Old Hunter, ‘What If I Killed Your Pet Cat?’ — and Her Dad Quickly Reacts

"Good Morning Britain” co-host Piers Morgan grilled 12-year-old trophy hunter Aryanna Gourdin Monday morning, comparing her killing of a giraffe to slaying her pet cat.

Gourdin, a Utah native, became the subject of heated controversy when she posted photos last week to her Facebook account of a giraffe, wildebeest and zebra she killed on an African safari.

“How would you feel if I came to your house one day, and I hunted down your pet cat, and I killed it and I then posted pictures of me celebrating the slaughter of your pet cat?” Morgan proudly asked the young girl. The pre-teen trophy hunter — clearly agitated by the question — struggled to find an answer, so her father stepped in, telling Morgan he was asking a “trick question” because the giraffe was not his pet.

Her family is feeding hungry Africans both through hunting fees and the meat of the dead animal. So she shot it??? What’s the big deal.

Fungi writes:

Does that include the ones he shot from trains?

Marktwain replies:

I do not recall his biography mentioning that he shot buffalo from trains, though he might have. It seems unlikely given his commercial interest in the animals.

If he did, they were a tiny percentage of the ones he shot.

I do not see any references to him shooting buffalo from trains in the wikipedia article, either.

The wikikpedia article is pretty good short biography.

You might wish to read it:

“The giraffe killing was needless, simply to satisfy ones vanity. It was simply wasted, not used for food or anything. “

Where does this information come from?

Read it. But there is more to the history of Cody than Wikipedia. So “Cody shot buffalo as a commercial hunter to feed the crews building the railroad.” So they had a traveling butcher shop? Wikipedia recounts he shot 68 buffalo to “earn” his moniker; were all those buffalo butchered and used for food? A buffalo is a big animal, considering what it takes to skin, butcher, package and preserve, did all the 68 end up as human food for those train employees? No, or else they had thousands of employees who had incredible appetites. And how was all this meat cooked on a train, or did they stop to have a picnic? Give it a rest.

If I was her dad I would have said:

“What if I cut off your testicles and fed them to your dog?”

Ever so often FR encounters a new, smarter-than-everyone-else, self-righteous n00b who just needs to set everyone straight on how to think.

We should all feel blessed by his/her presence.

Yes, it took thousands of people to build the railroads. Almost no powered equipment in those days.

Yes, they had crews with wagons that followed the hunters to bring the meat back to the railroad.

Why are you so invested in your fantasies about Cody? They are just another rewrite of history to discredit America.

Sure, their was tremendous “waste” in the shooting of the buffalo herds, mostly by hide hunters in the 1870s and 1880’s. They shot the bison for their hides, which were in high demand to make belts for machinery and other purposes. in the industrializing east of the country.

It was also government policy, as a way to defeat the Indian tribes that were still a danger on the frontier.

But there was little to no refrigeration in those days.

The country could not have been populated and the buffalo grounds turned into farm land and ranches, unless the vast herds were eliminated.

If you want to get incensed over “waste” of animal flesh, consider Australia, where government hunters shoot tens of thousands of animals a year and let them rot, because it is not economic to bring the meat to market.

That is happening in real time, right now.

All of the meat from African trophy hunts goes for food.

Save your pious leftist stupidity for your peers (none of them live here).

I’ll defer to your judgement about giraffes, and lions, and bears, oh my.

Never been to Africa & don’t plan to go. There was that scene in Out of Africa where Meryl Streep sees a lioness approaching & asks Robert Redford to shoot it. He replies the lioness has just eaten and without hunger it poses no threat.

Didn’t know giraffes in herds can behave aggressively. Oh, well.

Movies lie. :)

But you are actually in more danger from a lion then a lioness unless you managed to get between her and her cubs or if she is hungry.

A lion will attack because you are in his territory, you looked at him cross-eyed or he is just in a bad mood.

They have come to realize that a lion turning mankiller is more common then they thought.

There was a pride that through three generations turned out mankillers until the pride was wiped out.

They try to invent excuses for it,( there was a dearth of other pray, the grass was too high, they got accustomed to eating plague victims) but really lions are unpredictable.

Africa is fun, educational and I recommend it highly. Just stay in the Jeep and don't honk your horn at the elephants crossing the road. They will get across when they are good and ready.

And don't pet the giraffes unless you are out of reach of their hooves. One kick can shatter your bones.

If you don’t plan on grilling it, don’t plan on killing it.

(Except vermin, like coyote)

Trophy hunting is stupid, wasteful and inhuman.

MO, YMMV.

It's the use of a firearm isn't it--the point that a preteen can skillfully use one sized for taking large game. That recognized point leads one to the consideration that a lesser skilled individual, with an appropriately scaled hand weapon, could defend themselves from feral humans walking the streets. Humans are hunted every single day.

Yes, a stroll through certain areas has resulted in many being hunted, cited in news items about the latest victim of random attack. You have outed yourself as anti-firearm in addition to anti-hunter with that last statement "I have no sympathy when adult or child hunters shoot themselves by mistake. I say good riddance."

Three days without the niceties of civilization would be a fitting test of your viewpoints.
