I am considering getting Amazon Prime and canceling Netflix. I currently have the Netflix where I get mailed physical DVDs. There is lag time and it's a pain in the behind to have to go find a mailbox to ship them back. I have found that while Netflix has a large quantity of movies in their selection, the quality is not there. I'd say that only about 15-20% of their movies seem worth watching, not being dirty or stupid.
How would you compare the selection of Netflix movies to those of Amazon Prime?
“Amazon Prime has almost nothing compared to Netflix”
-—I have to agree with that. I have both Amazon and Netflix and prefer Netflix over Amazon. Amazon, outside of newer releases (that you have to pay for) rarely updates their line-up, IMO, while Netflix updates their line-up monthly. If I didn’t use Amazon Prime for shopping and shipping savings I would cancel Prime because if it was for their programming alone it wouldn’t be worth it.
Amazon offers free shipping, music, and other goodies with Prime. Movies aside, it is a yearly subscription where one loses the other offerings. So, I keep it.
Netflix and HBO NOW can be rotated in and out on a monthly basis. I check back and binge from time to time. Since Amazon movies don't change often, I get to use my wonderful hobby machine shop.
Agree. But, you might try Acorn. It has a fraction of the offerings of Netflix but I find myself watching it more and more. It $5.
I have them all.HULU,good for TV shows and some movies...CRACKLEs free ,with older tv and movies....HBO,SHOWTIME are good with newer movies.NETFLIX is the best for the assortment of movies and TV shows...They all have sludge, just like cable tv.I pay extra for no commercials and it has turned me off of regular tv watching
Forgot to add.AMAZON is like an afterthought to go with PRIME..They are still new to the game and they get a lot of mileage out of their edgy AMAZON shows like Transparent
I have nothing to add, just want to comment.
There is so much out there, in terms of cable/satellite TV, along with DVDs and services such as Netflix, sites such as YouTube and Hulu, well, to me, it feels like there are endless numbers of choices of what to watch.
I don’t watch much TV or movies or DVD. But I get the feeling that when I’m retired, I will be overwhelmed with so many choices which modern technology has given us.
I already utilize my library's offerings of DVDs. The problem with library DVDs is that they usually only have 1 copy of each film and the DVD is therefore full of scratches which may affect the viewing. Often, some moron has changed the language settings on the DVD and then I have to change them back. Also, you only get the DVD for 3 days and if you're late, there are very hefty late fees.
OK. I don't watch TV shows at all and haven't for close to 40 years. I am only interested in watching movies. Also, I guess you were trying to impress folks with all those techie terms but the effect was more confusion than helpfulness.
That is exactly what I said in my first post of this thread--that Netflix may have MORE selections, but their quality is "made for DVD" in most cases. Most of their films have titles I've never seen on a theater marquee. I don't watch TV series, so there is no attraction for me in the TV shows you mentioned or others.
I got my Amazon Fire TV stick yesterday and hooked it up. When I was successful in streaming on my SmartTV, I signed up for my free 30 day trial of Amazon Prime. I watched a very good movie about the romance between the Queen of Denmark Caroline Mathilda and the king's physician, who was hung, drawn and quartered by corrupt court council members at the end. If I could consistently get good movies like that, it would be great. I had to search quite extensively to find that movie in the Amazon offerings. They annoyingly have TV shows mixed in with their movie offerings.
Netflix has a much larger library than Amazon. Each service has exclusives, Netflix I believe has an exclusive deal with Disney I believe, and produces more original content, while Prime has a lot of HBO’s series. Cancel the dvd shipping to save a few bucks. I consider Amazon’s streaming to be an added bonus of the Prime fast shipping.
I went there and an ad popped up that tried to give me a virus.
Netflix is mostly grade B movies.
I gave up on Sherlock Holmes movies because the only way to truly enjoy Holmes is to read then original Doyle. And Burroughs was also a great writer as well.
The original Conan books are another old favorite.
I hear you, I’m the same way.
