I don’t think I am ‘coddling his memory’. I thought Joe should have been let go for his non-performance as a head football coach in the late-90s. All of my friends from PSU thought I was mad. You could see dementia creeping in during his radio appearances. I knew it couldn’t end well. That something would snap and the football program that he professed to love would suffer.

I was also creeped out wathing the rock star idolization of a football coach by undergrads who were young enough to be his great grandchildren. It would be understandable if he were putting a contender on the field.

The fact that Joe could be more persuasive than the administration of PSU shows the administration was not doing their job. The people in the town, the prosecutors, the HR department of the school along with the board and the president had the direct responsibility for the welfare of everyone on the school property. The fact that they did not put the welfare of the children on campus before the football coach is ridiculous.

Its not adequate to just say the football coach was powerful. For him to be powerful, others had to be shirking their responsibility. Sandusky was accused and the police did nothing. The situation was brought to the attention of the administration and they did nothing. It made the news paper and mothers still sent their kids to his camp.

“. It made the news paper and mothers still sent their kids to his camp.”

Was this at the time of the molesting? Was this local papers? Did not know of this if true. It figures mothers sent their kids there. Mothers with no fathers for the kids. Perfect victims.

This is how you deal with Joe Paterno....

Erase every memory him. He was a scumbag that enabled a child molester to prey on children for decades.

“He was 70 when Sandusky was first accused. And Paterno informed the administration at the first accusation.”

I understood that Paterno was an old man and perhaps not the most technically savvy person on the planet, but he was likely aware that telephones existed.

With his telephone, he should have called the police and reported that Sandusky was sodomizing ten year old boys in the shower room.

I have no inside info, but have heard that coaches around the country knew that Sandusky was a pervert.

He wasn’t 80 the whole time. This goes back to the 70s. And Paterno hired him, and outlasted multiple administrations. He either knew or he was stupid, either way honoring him is sickening.

This isn’t about a “failing”, this is about allowing HUNDREDS of children to be RAPED under HIS VERY NOSE. They should put a urinal on his grave.

No respect for the old fool. not taking action on that one thing ruins everything else he did. Disgusting to support him.

Yeah, but you know the JoePa apologists will back him to the dirty end. After all, winning football games is much more important than caring about the broken lives of children, most of whom will now grow up to become pederasts themselves thanks to Sandusky and his passive enabler.

JoePa apologist symbol:

Yeah, but that could have affected his game planning! Priorities, priorities! < / sarcasm off >

Paterno knew about it, of that there is little doubt. And so did dozens, if not hundreds, of others. Parents, players, coaches, administrators, and on and on. What took so GD long? Where was Dottie Sandusky? He was bringing young boys to his home regularly for years and “tucking them in.” Is she brain-dead or what? None of this excuses Paterno, but so many others are culpable in this matter.

Like I said on another thread. These facts, and also that there are STILL people out there defending and lionizing JoePa, just confirms to me that our civilization is in its death throes.
