This is sad to see but I'm glad he's putting his health first. Does he come back next year or retire?

A little off topic but I’ve been thinking all week about the difference between NASCAR and the NFL and their athletes and fans. Earnhardt vs Kaepernick sums up my feelings.

Quite a difference - I’ll take NASCAR people any day. Most lefties I’ve met hate NASCAR and think it’s fans are stupid/uneducated. While defending NFL athletes who commit violent crimes at a far higher rate than NASCAR (it seems).

I’d be willing to bet Kaepernick that members of his profession commit many more violent crimes as a percentage than the police who he is condemning. Has he condemned his own profession and demanded change as he tells police that they need to condemn and change their’s?

This is worrisome when you think about other drivers who seemed to be in similar situations and never came back, Nadeau and Parks come to mind first.

Good for Dale, Jr.!! If he wasn't healed, I had been hoping he would take the necessary time it takes to heal while sitting out the rest if the season.

Drivers take some big hits, but I hadn't realized how many really hard hits he'd taken that had clearly hurt him.

The cars and the driver's in-car safety equipment continue to improve, especially so in recent years thanks in no small measure to the loss of his dad Dale Sr. at Daytona in 2001.

They're also getting better at applying their growing understanding of the physics of crashing to the racetracks themselves, too.

But, take a look at Keselowski's spectacular crashes, especially the recent hard crash while testing at Watkins Glen, for an understanding of the hits these drivers take, and listen to him talking about the Watkins Glen crash and the need to keep improving safety.

The body can heal itself, but bone and brain take a while, even under ideal circumstances.

Ideal circumstances simply don't include more NASCAR crashes, whether it's a young brain or a 40-something brain, that's just not a good plan.

Dale Jr. is very wise taking whatever time he needs out of the car to heal...whether he wants to or not.

I'm guessing he'll want the memories of today and yesterday in 20 years or so.

They're going to be worth far more than more 2016 time in the 88 car.

It is sad for him as his balance is messed up.

He is an Icon around here and across the country in NASCAR.
His family are decent hard working folks that has much respect in the racing community.

The funny part is Flash driving his car, I get a chuckle out of that.

Sadly, I think the chances are higher than 50% Dale Earnhardt, Jr. retires on the advice of his doctors.
