Colin Kaepernick and San Francisco 49ers safety Eric Reid kneeled during the national anthem Thursday night, continuing the quarterbacks preseason protest of American racial injustice and minority oppression.
Kaepernick and Reid dropped to one knee while a naval officer sang The Star-Spangled Banner and dozens of military members unfurled an oversized flag at the Chargers Qualcomm Stadium.
Kaepernick received scattered boos when he dropped to a knee, but the protest was otherwise unremarked by the San Diego crowd. The 49ers visit coincided with the annual Salute to the Military preseason game for the Chargers, who have strong fan support in their citys extensive armed forces community.
Kaepernick got much heavier boos when he took the field to start the game for the 49ers and immediately led them on a 16-play, 85-yard touchdown drive. The veteran quarterback is attempting to regain the starting job that he lost last season.

The sporting press is an arm of the mainstream media...and therefore crooked.
Hopefully soon, the NFL will learn that the fortunes of the NFL are almost wholly dependent on the support of balding, paunchy, middle-aged white men.....
I would LOVE to see a full on boycott of the league by “whitey”.....
The NFL is bizarre. They do things to respect our troops but don't demand as part of contract obligations that players stand and show respect in ceremonies that are about respect?
As it is said here in the South; “Isn’t he precious.” and “Bless his heart.”.
let him say he hates gays or muslims are terrorists. that’ll get the nfl to action on him. just not this...
The NFL offended a lot of people with a half time show with equal mixes Black Power and Homosexual Pride.
If they let politics dominate this season even worse, and with things most people find offensive, their ratings will plummet. They will pay a literal price for people not wanting to watch this crap, and they will suffer for it because many people only tune into sports as an escape from daily life, not another source of political rhetoric.
Go ahead and kneel before your superiors.
Too stupid to know that kneeling is a sign of reverence ha
That’s just it. TV money pays for the NFL on the whole. So the NFL probably really doesn’t care if any free publicity is about positive story or negative, unless ratings go down. I tend to think free exposure probably has more folks tuning in.
Freegards
Significant marketing blunder on the part of the NFL.
Kaepernick is an employee—They can tell him what to do.
If he doesn’t do it, he can be canned.
Simple as that.
I did not watch the game and will not watch any game in which he plays - including the Super Bowl if he gets that far. I’m disappointed in anyone who bought last-minute tickets knowing that a team that continues to employ a traitor would benefit from their attendance.
