They were both armed, one with a pistol and the other with an assault rifle, and they proceeded to strafe the bus as the driver tried to get away.
In that case, all three were sent to the hoosgow. Penny Chapmen got 10 years; the two shooters each got 15-30 year sentences.
Maybe "Mohammed" finally snarled his Muslim mouth off to the wrong person. Maybe he wouldn't hold the door open for her because she's a woman, and so less than a dog to him. And maybe he told her that. And maybe she then told the guy she was with what he said, and then maybe the guy she was with put Mohammed down like a dog, to show him what those words mean.
Maybe that happened.
