A Mexican restaurant in Michigan is under investigation by local health officials after a former waitress accused the eatery of routinely reserving food to customers.
On Aug. 23, Kristie Bowie, who says she is the mother of a 16-year-old former server, posted on Facebook that her daughter had been ordered not to throw away salsa, chips or any food items that appeared untouched, even if they had been previously served to customers.

Disgusting.
...and the health department has not shut them down?! Incompetence. (Else protecting local illegal aliens.)
Beware of used salsa that has been double- and triple-dipped with the same chip.
The cockroaches, however, are fresh.
Yeah, sure. I was in the back of a famous fancy restaurant once, and it was completely disgusting.
You found that in a hurry!
I have all my memes standing by at the ready.
Whaddaya want for nothing, a rubber biscuit?
I think a high percentage of solo restaurants of individual families and owners - this is common practice and the sanitary conditions of the kitchens and storage areas would make people not want to eat there.
I dont get sick because I eat at very few places outside my house. They are vetted with extreme prejudice.
I had a pretty sad looking pickle on my plate at dinner. I wonder how many other plates it had seen already today.
Sadly I think this is all too common, Mexican, Chinese, American, all of them. That said, I have never heard of re-serving food before. Very ignorant. Wonder if they might offer discount for leftovers?
Re-serve bread and rolls?
Not me. Many of the little mom and pop Mexican places around here in SoCal are pig styes and that’s in the front part of the restaurant. I can just imagine the sloppy, unsanitary conditions in the kitchens.
If they aren’t reserving the chips and salsa, then it’s probably not an authentic Mexican restaurant! Some things just go with the territory.
That's not so bad. When I was younger, my mom took some odd part-time jobs. One time she worked as a helper in the kitchen of a Chinese restaurant in a tourist destination. She flipped open the top of a barrel of rice and discovered a dead rat on top of the rice. As she was preparing to throw away the barrel of rice, the Chinese boss lady screamed at her to just toss out the rat and to keep the rice for use. My mom quit on the spot, deciding that she couldn't work for a disgusting place like that. Restaurants do cut corners and pinch pennies for their profits, and customers are none the wiser.
