I had never heard it before.

But being from Texas, I’m more accustomed to Hernandez and the like.

And I have never, never met anyone named Smith or Jones to my knowledge. Which is also interesting.

I guess we are opposites in that regard. names here are German Slovak Polish (British Isles, Irish etc).

So your example also sounds ridiculous in Spanish. It would be like naming your kid ‘John Bravejourney’, ie. Juan Hernandez.
