Discover the cosmos! Each day a different image or photograph of our fascinating universe is featured, along with a brief explanation written by a professional astronomer.
Explanation: August 10th was the 50th anniversary of the launch of Lunar Orbiter 1. It was the first of five Lunar Orbiters intended to photograph the Moon's surface to aid in the selection of future landing sites. That spacecraft's camera captured the data used in this restored, high-resolution version of its historic first image of Earth from the Moon on August 23, 1966 while on its 16th lunar orbit. Hanging almost stationary in the sky when viewed from the lunar surface, Earth appears to be setting beyond the rugged lunar horizon from the perspective of the orbiting spacecraft. Two years later, the Apollo 8 crew would record a more famous scene in color: Earthrise from lunar orbit.

Wow! I really like that saying:
“God’s Blessing in the Universe”
I have a video that I love to watch: “The Privileged Planet”
It is in color .. and the authors contend that the PLACEMENT of the Earth was absolutely on purpose. If we were just a few degrees closer to the Sun, we would burn up; if we were just a few degrees closer to Mars, we would be frozen and barren. And, our perfect placement allows for the most advantageous exploration of the planets and stars.
The Privileged Planet bump....
You are just scratching the surface...
Lately I have been enjoying “Ancient Aliens”. My wife teases me but my rejoinder is, “There is more truth here than in her Faux News...”
Most of it is just goofy but they have a few nuggets. Things that make you go “Hmmmm”. Things like our moon is the only one that can produce a full eclipse. Not just because of it’s unique proportion but it’s plane of orbit.
And the “Dark Side”. There are three oddities that are observable to a caveman yet were rarely reflect on them.
“You are just scratching the surface...”
Oh, I’m sure I am .. but not being an astronaut, or an astro .. anything .. I just appreciate the beauty of the Earth (as seen from space), because I fully believe GOD placed the Earth here for his purposes.
So much to ponder if one only has “eyes to see” and requiring nothing more than the senses He gave us. More and more in this “season of silliness” I am turning to APOD and the Friday Silliness for serious material for humor and thought.
Think Pumapunku ! Love Ancient Aliens...
Yeah, him. What a head of hair. Maybe this guys an alien?
