Suddenly I feel that something has just jumped onto the bed, and is walking around on the mattress (just as it felt when my cats use to do it each night when they were still with me.) Sometimes it feels as though they have curled up next to me.

I've had exactly that experience with only one of my late cats, but she does not curl up next to me-- she never did in life. She would jump on my bed and then go to her basket. But I have felt her jumping onto the bed when I'm settling down to sleep, and then off again. So it's her, and not your cat!
