I've had exactly that experience with only one of my late cats, but she does not curl up next to me-- she never did in life. She would jump on my bed and then go to her basket. But I have felt her jumping onto the bed when I'm settling down to sleep, and then off again. So it's her, and not your cat!
What is your cat's name? - so I know what to call her the next time she stops by.
