There are houses in N.O. that were formerly under 10+ ft of water and are in decaying,high-crime neighborhoods that are priced more than that for the ‘ambiance’ of living in a sinking cesspool Put in high end appliance, slap some paint on the outside and fools are actually buying up old dumps.
I can’t research all the way back to when Ball owned it, but in 1956 it was bought for a small enough price that the deed of trust on it was only $7000.
No unreasonable to assume a total purchase price of $9K or thereabouts.
