But why do parents these days give their daughters men’s names?
Sydney is female, Sidney is Male
Shannon is both male and female
For one, we did it to prevent any sort of gender bias on job hunting. Our daughter Sam(antha) gets more interviews with her resume using Sam than Samantha.
My mother wanted to name me Sydney 78 years ago. My grandfather scoffed, as he rose from his death bed on his elbow, “Sydney! I had a horse named Sydney. Name her after my mother, Elizabeth.” And so, I was named Elizabeth, but mom refused to call me that.
