The Big Broadcast is a Sunday night tradition for families throughout the WAMU listening area.

Longtime radio personality and The Big Broadcast host Ed Walker passed away early on Oct. 26 at age 83. We invite you to leave your thoughts and remembrances.

Saying Goodbye To Ed Walker

Ed Walker spent 65 years on the radio. His last program was unlike any other.

Hello, FRiends! Vision is once again busy this evening and has asked me to post the thread. Our new host, Murray Horowitz, continues to disappoint, as he insists on ditching Ed Walker's long-time intro-three program lineup. It's irksome, but all the complaints from listeners on the WAMU website are not fazing him, and he continues to break up the lineup with stupid comedies and a children's show (Superman). I don't much care whether I tune in or not, but we'll probably listen to some of it.

Tonight's List:

7 p.m. Yours Truly Johnny Dollar “The Chesapeake Fraud Matter” Parts 2 + 3 (CBS, Original airdates October 18 and 19, 1955)

7:30 p.m. Our Miss Brooks “Weekend at Crystal Lake” (CBS, Original airdate August 21, 1950)

8 p.m. Gunsmoke “One For Lee”, episode 284 (AFRTS, Original airdate January 26, 1958)

8:20 p.m. The Adventures of Superman “Airplane Disasters at Bridger Field” Part #5 (Original airdate May 8, 1940)

8:30 p.m. Dimension X “The Martian Chronicles” (NBC, Original airdate August 18, 1950)

9 p.m. Dragnet ”ERIC KELBY" aka “Body Buried in Nursery” (NBC, Original airdate September 3rd, 1949)

9:30 p.m. Gang Busters “Four feathers” (CBS, Original airdate January 21, 1950)

10 p.m. The MGM Theatre Of The Air "Stamboul Quest" (MGM syndication, Original airdate July 14, 1950)

PS: I like some of the comedies. I don't mean that they're "stupid." What I mean is that it's stupid to put them in between Johnny Dollar, Dragnet and Gunsmoke.

Freakin’ customs took my sealed salami...even though their website says you can bring it through. Meh!

Better, Gina, Thanks! I finally got a wound therapy MD who was worth his diploma and is taking care of me. They packed my bandages, and wrapped my leg from toes to kneecap with a compression wrap to get the swelling down. And what a difference. I can actually get my fingers down inside the soft cast, it's done so well. I can walk normally (except for navigating the stairs - limited flex in my ankle), I can wear a shoe on that foot, and the antibiotics and hydrocodone have done the rest. The one thing that makes me feel silly is that they pulled a sheer stocking over the whole deal to protect it and it looks like I'm wearing pantyhose.

Vision, are you kidding us? They actually swiped your salami?!? A real Italian salami?

I am seriously, formally enraged on your behalf, sir! I mean, the gall!

A smaller one but yes, actually four of them. Their website even says it's ok. Artistry from a beautiful small town salumeria is sitting in the trash at BWI.

They threw away four of them? Seriously - and I'm not being a wise guy, I think this is beyond the pale, and I'm a salami lover, to boot - I feel bad for you. This is just sad how we're treated anymore. How the devil can they think a salami is some sort of WMD or food poisoning outbreak waiting to happen? No, I'll tell you what is going to happen: that overpaid mall cop is gonna dig it all out of the trash and it's going to end up in the break room fridge by 5 AM, that's what's gonna happen.

Because he cares not one whit about tradition. It's his personal fiefdom now. I wish there was a different horse we could hitch our wagon to.

I’m glad to hear your leg’s doing better, even if you have to wear pantyhose like Joe Namath. :-D
