Blacks with college experience more likely to say they faced discrimination

A majority of black Americans say that at some point in their lives they’ve experienced discrimination or were treated unfairly because of their race or ethnicity, but blacks who have attended college are more likely than those without any college experience to say so, according to a recent Pew Research Center survey.

About eight in ten blacks with at least some college experience (81%) say they’ve faced discrimination or been treated unfairly because of their race or ethnicity, compared with 59% of blacks who have never attended college.

These differences also extend to more specific incidents of racial discrimination. For example, blacks who have attended college are more likely than those who have not to say they have been met with suspicion or that someone has questioned their intelligence. …

The damage was already done long before Nikita attained his office of power. FDR and Alger Hiss made sure of that.

If algebra is racist, how much more are calculus and differential equations?

And of course, John Wiley Price declared physics racist by complaining about “black holes”.

Note “Attended” not “Graduated”

Relevant because Affirmative Action forces unqualified people to be admitted ahead of qualified people, by DEFINITION, and based only on Race.

How would you feel if you were admitted to a place only to learn how totally over your head you are once you get there ?

And then to figure out your being there is just to fill some government dictated admittance quote, and are left behind after that…

If they attended an HBC, then its no wonder. If they got a degree in “Grievance Studies,” then it’s no wonder. If they got admitted and skated through because of their color, then it’s no wonder.

Good point. Very.

The only thing I agreed with FDR on was government employees shouldn’t have unions.

Until Bammy came a long, he was in competition with Wilson for the worse ever. Although I pray I never see this, ...Shillary can beat them all.

Are you sure about that? The transcript is at https://www.cia.gov/library/readingroom/docs/1959-07-24.pdf and there is no mention whatsoever of schools, universities, or colleges. Maybe you’re thinking of “We will hang the capitalists with the rope that they sell us.” but there is no evidence that Stalin or Marx ever uttered those words, either.

I posit the operative word is “experience”.

Why?

Because its not easy to get a college degree.

It’s very easy though to get college “experience”.

So, losers who dropped out.

You’re welcome.

Basically college tells them they’ve been discriminated against. 46 years on the planet as a black man, and I can honestly not recall a single instance where I felt that I was discriminated against based on my race. Incidentally, I can think of a good number where it worked to my advantage.

That’s not to say that I’ve had it easy relatively speaking. I do believe that there’s something to the reality that maybe if I wasn’t black, I might have fewer family members who needed help and more that might be available to give help, maybe the same thing with my social networks, etc.

But those are just things that go along with being a part of a general community that’s not doing as well as some others, and it’s by no means exclusive to being black. I’m sure there are lots of white people in Appalachia with even more “unhelpful” social networks.

My statement was that most minority students were admitted to college on their own merit.

Of course, there are colleges that do assign extra points to applicants who for whatever reason meet certain characteristics that the school believes are desirable.

Thus, some students may be aided in their admission to a school based on their race, ethnicity or status of being a legacy.

That is not true. You should do some reading about admissions. Minority students are not admitted on the basis of merit.

Yes, there are "colleges that do assign extra points" for some applicants. That's a nice way of putting it. 300 to 350 extra points are quite a gift.

How would you like to score 750 on your SAT and be rejected while someone with a 400 is accepted and takes your place.

Marx or Stalin? Those words were attributed to Lenin. The actual words he wrote were these, however:
They (i.e. the capitalists) will furnish credits which will serve us for the support of the Communist Party in their countries and, by supplying us materials and technical equipment which we lack, will restore our military industry necessary for our future attacks against our suppliers. To put it in other words, they will work on the preparation of their own suicide.
Not known who rearranged the quote to be more pithy.

I doubt there is a single person on FR that hasn't faced some kind of discrimination...many face numerous instances...I know I've had my share....

then again, I'm white so I just don't complain....

“How would you like to score 750 on your SAT and be rejected while someone with a 400 is accepted and takes your place.(?)”

Anyone who scores 750-1150 on their SAT has no business being admitted to a decent university.

Work hard, study, be focused and no one will take your place.

As far as going to college, gaining admission to a good school is the easy part. Once the student is in the school, they have to pass their physics class, calculus class and everything else that is required for their major.

And in physics class, they don’t get extra points for being a minoriry or being legacy or because their daddy donated lots of money to the school.

If they can’t pass their classes, they get tossed from the school.

We will get you in your schools

I read it years ago here at F.R. and can't find it now either.

But it makes sense, it's happened and will get worse with common core and don't we also get to "call a circle a square" (Goebbels) if it's to save us.
