The husband of an Ohio schoolteacher, who was severely injured when four men dropped a rock on her car from a highway overpass, killed himself late Saturday night – and the prosecutor who jailed the rock-throwers blames them for Randy Budd’s suicide.

Budd, 55, was pronounced dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at his Ohio residence, Harry Campbell, chief investigator for Ohio’s Stark County Coroner’s office, told the AP on Sunday.

“Randy Budd did not die from a gunshot,” Union County District Attorney D. Peter Johnson told pennlive.com. “He died when those kids threw a rock through his windshield.”

Although I am stunned that he called you, most if not the vast majority, would not call, nor care. However, his thinking was still that his problems were more important than his actions affect on you. All suicides hurt far more people than anyone wants to believe.

In addition, I cannot imagine there were no internal conflicts within your own mind about the situation.

If the guy was of the mind that he wanted to kill himself, he should have just offed the five f#%&ers who committed that crime and pleaded guilty in exchange for a death sentence.

I was thinking the same thing. These low-life kids received sentences that were just slaps on the wrist. One of them didn't even serve a full year - for an attempted murder that left somebody permanently crippled and disfigured.

Back on topic about the post after my PSA, when the woman dies as a result of her injuries, be it 10 ot 20 years from now, the rock throwers will be charges with murder. Sounds like this prosecutor has some cajones.

As for the now dead husband, I am so sorry that he was in such pain. Caring for a disabled person is incredibly difficult, more so for men than women I believe. Perhaps he felt as tho his wife, the woman he shared his life with, actually ceased to exist after the attack. We should not judge him, but rather pray for his family.

I’ll save the judgement for those punks that ruined that man’s life.

Selfish I would agree with. Cowardly I don’t.

You have just called the man I spent 40 years with a coward.

Please see my follow up post. I used the wrong word. Sorry.

I have four friends that have had husbands and children commit suicide and my own daughter attempted it. I’m not without understanding of the concept.

And I am sincerely sorry for your loss.

Oh, and if you’re of a religious bent, yeah, I’ve got you covered there too. “Judge not, lest you be judged.”

Yes I am. I don’t judge people. I judge actions. The person committing it is irrelevant to me.

This is where I get into trouble on subjects that are emotional for many people. I use a single case to make an academic point. And I should have not said “cowardly”. That is not the word. I realized it after I posted, but I can’t seem to find an “edit post” feature. I’ll keep looking.

I really do think that “selfish” applies more than “coward”. When someone who has loved ones depending on them in their life actually kills themself, it is one of two things:

1. “Get even” with loved ones they want to punish.
2. Selfish - they don’t think about the grief they will cause others but are more concerned with their own current or expected future discomfort.

The actual act may take real courage, though. But the bottom line is that suicide leaves a wide and deep trail if there are people in your life who either love you or depend on you.

Well that would certainly be a cowardly way out...

And less painful.

However, I used to be in a prison ministry band. I discovered from my exposure to what was happening in prison that a prisoner can be an influence for Christ within the institution. So, for ME, I’d prefer death, but if Christ had something else in mind, I’d run with it for as long as I was alive. It didn’t do the Apostle Paul any harm.

With him dead, she may get better care and medical benefits...with him alive he’d have to provide complex care that he may not have had the money or resources to give her...

Kinda reminds me of the beginning of “It’s a Wonderful Life”.

But the bottom line is that killing yourself to get better benefits for your spouse is, quite literally, playing God.

This is why I got a CCW and now carry in my car. I’ll probably never need it. I HOPE I never need it. But still...

Though we get our perspective from different paths, you and I are pretty much on the same page with this one.

It saddens me to see threats and name calling on this site. It (and its members) deserve more respect than that, even when they disagree with you on something you feel emotionally strong about.
